7 Important things to know about your Ohio EBT card!

  • Apply for Ohio EBT online on the government website. This is the fastest and easiest way to apply for food benefits.
  • Know what you can buy. Many people think that you can only buy food with your food stamps card, but that’s not technically true. You can also buy seeds, produce-bearing plants, some birthday cakes and even certain gift baskets!
  • You may be eligible for more food stamps than you are getting. Many people are getting less than they should because they don’t get credit for all their deductions.
  • You can get more food for your money with the Double Value Coupon Program at farmer’s markets. You can find more information about farmer’s market discounts here, here and here. You can find a list of all Ohio farmer’s markets that accept EBT by clicking here.
  • You could qualify for more food stamps funds! Who doesn’t need more grocery money every month? We’ve found several legal ways that you can increase your monthly food stamps balance! If you’re ready to get more grocery money each month, then you won’t want to miss this post!
  • You may be able to get cash back from your food stamps card legally by using rewarded shopping apps. One of our readers earned an additional $437.84 in cash just by shopping with her food stamps card!
  • You can use your Ohio EBT funds in unexpected places. In addition to most grocery stores and gas stations, you can use your card at Costco, many farmer’s markets and even Schwan’s food delivery trucks! Some retailers even give you discounts when you shop with your Ohio EBT card!

Internet is essential to daily life. You could qualify for Internet as low as $5 per month! Learn how to get discounted Internet services here!

Power companies may provide free weatherization services, free appliances and other perks for low income customers.

Property tax exemptions for low-income seniors and disabled veterans may be available from your local county assessor’s office. Contact your assessor’s office for more information, including income limits and application instructions.

Student loans? If you qualify for Ohio EBT, you also qualify for income-based repayment plans! These plans can cost you as little as ZERO dollars per month and can even result in total loan forgiveness!

Get museum admission discounts with your EBT card!

For your convenience, we’ve organized our free and discounted museum admission list alphabetically by city. We have also used green titles to indicate Museums for All partners because these museums will provide discounts to people with an EBT card from any state.

It is important to remember that you cannot pay for admission with your EBT card. You will show the EBT card to receive the discount but you will need to pay the remaining admission price, if any, in cash or with a credit/debit card.

Akron

Akron Art Museum – FREE

Since 185o, the Akron Art Museum has worked to enrich lives through art. Visit the Akron Art Museum for free!

Akron Zoo – $3 per person

If you have Ohio EBT, then you can bring up to four people to the Akron Zoo for just $3 per person! There is a $3 parking fee, so you may prefer to ride the Metro for your visit.

Akron Children’s Museum – $1 per person

Enjoy a hands-on play space at Akron Children’s Museum! The museum’s exhibits promote STEM learning, health, wellness, arts, culture, and citizenship concepts through fun exhibits that incorporate Akron’s rich history. Up to four people can visit for just $1 each with a valid EBT card!

Hower House – $2 per person

This 28-room Victorian mansion is filled with treasures collected by the Hower family throughout their international travels. It is on the National Historic Landmark registry. Children are free with an accompanying adult.

Institute for Human Science and Culture – $3 per person

This museum of psychology uses artifacts, documents, photographs and videos to explore the history of human psychology and science. It is located at the University of Akron.

National Museum of Psychology – $3 per person

Explore the profession, science and social change of psychology! This museum explores how psychology has become a part of pop culture and everyday life.

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens – $3 per adult

In addition to touring the 70 acres of landscaped gardens, you can also visit the historic 65-room Tudor Revival Manor House, Gothic Revival Conservatory and Gate Lodge. With your EBT card, you can bring four adults to Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens for $3 each. All the children accompanying you will visit free!

Summit County Historical Society – $1 per person

The Historical Society runs the John Brown Home and the Perkins Stone Mansion, as well as other sites throughout Akron and Summit County. The Perkins Stone Mansion is open for self-guided tours. House tours are just $1 per person and children 5 years old and younger are free.

Ashland

Ashland County Historical Society – $3 per person

The Ashland County Historical Society consists of three separate houses: the Manor House, the Carriage House, and the Noonan House. The tours are $3 per adult, $1 per child.

Athens

Southeast Ohio History Center FREE

The Southeast Ohio History Center focuses on showcasing local history through rotating exhibits, artifact maintenance and more. The museum focuses on the histories of Athens, Hocking, Meigs, Vinton and Washington Counties.

Archbold

Sauder Village – $3 per person

Visit historic Sauder Village for engaging stories, demonstrations and fun activities. The village includes historic homes, gardens, barns, shops and more from different eras. The village has a pioneer settlement, a 1920s main street and more. They offer a discounted rate of $3 per person, up to four people per card.

Bath

Hale Farm & Village – $3

The Hale Farm and Village is a living history museum that includes 32 historic structures, trade and craft demonstrations, farm animals, gardens, and more. Costumed interpreters are available to help you see and experience daily life on the farm.

Beachwood

Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage – $3 or less per person

Learn about the Jewish-American experience at Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage. This museum features exhibitions, interactive and films, oral histories, photographs, artifacts and more.

Bolivar

Fort Laurens – $3 or less per person

Welcome to Ohio’s only Revolutionary War fort! Built in 1778, this former wilderness outpost tells the story of soldiers on the frontier. They also have recreational trails and more.

Canton

Canton Museum of Art – $3 or less per person

In addition to being a Museums for All member, Canton Museum of Art is free for everyone every Thursday between 10am and 8pm and on the first Friday of every month!

McKinley Presidential Library and Museum – $3 per adult

Children under age 18 visit for free! Adults are just $3 per person.

Cincinnati

American Sign Museum – $3 or less per person

Explore nearly 100 years of signs at the American Sign Museum!

Cincinnati Museum Centers  – $2 per person (+ FREE parking)

With an EBT card, tickets to each of the Cincinnati Museum Centers are just $2 per person! You can redeem this offer for up to ten guests per EBT, SNAP or Medicaid card, when showing photo ID. You’ll also receive free parking as part of this offer. Elilgible recipients can also receive $2/person Holocaust & Humanity Center tickets and $5/adult Maya: The Exhibition tickets (free for children 3 – 12)

Duke Energy Children’s Museum is consistently ranked in the top 10 children’s museums in the United States, Duke Energy Children’s Museum features eight themed adventure areas. These include a wilderness adventure, a complex machine exploration and a Kids’ Town.

Cincinnati Zoo – $40 memberships

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden offers discounts for families with food stamps cards! Even better, they honor that price for people with EBT cards from any state!

With your EBT card, you can receive admission for just $6 per adult and $3 per child under 12 and seniors. You’ll also pay just $1 for parking!

If you prefer, you can purchase a standard family membership for just $40 per year. This membership includes unlimited free admission and parking for an entire year! The membership covers up to two named adults and all children ages 18 and under. It normally costs $129, so that’s a huge savings! Thanks for the tip, Katrina!

Harriet Beecher Stowe House – $1 per person

This house hosted many educators, ministers and antislavery advocates in the 18 years that the Beechers lived there. Author Harriet Beecher Stowe was the author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

Nancy & David Wolf Holocaust & Humanity Center – $2 per person

With an EBT card, you’ll get free parking at Union Terminal and $2 admission per person. Students are always free. They also provide free admission to people with Medicaid cards. Click on Museums For All to access the details about purchasing these tickets, because they can not be purchased online.

Reds Hall of Fame & Museum – FREE

Up to four people can visit the Reds Hall of Fame & Museum free with an EBT card!

Taft Museum of Art – $3 per person

The Taft houses a small fine arts museum inside a National Historic Landmark built in 1820. Its collection includes European and American paintings, Chinese porcelains and major works by Rembrandt, Goya, Reynolds and more. It also boasts a Gothic ivory sculpture.

Cleveland

Children’s Museum of Cleveland – $2

The Children’s Museum of Cleveland  allows families with an Ohio EBT card discounted admission of $2 per person for up to 4 people in the same household. Families with an active military ID receive $2 off admission per immediate family member. Must show card to get this discount.

Cleveland Botanical Garden – $1 per person

Explore 10 acres of diverse gardens and the 18,000 square foot Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse. There is a Japanese Garden, Inspiration Garden, Children’s Garden,  herb garden, woodland garden and more. In the Glasshouse, you’ll discover a lush Costa Rican rainforest populated with butterflies, birds and more.

The garden now also offers a new membership level for individuals and families using WIC, Medicaid, or EBT benefits.  The Access Membership costs $25 for a full year, and is equivalent to the Family level membership (covering 2 adults and children under the age of 18).  Members have access to both Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Holden Arboretum. 

Cleveland History Center – $3

The Cleveland History Center welcomes eligible visitors for just $3 each. Just show your EBT or WIC card at the admissions desk to receive the discount!

Cleveland Museum of Art – FREE

Okay, so this isn’t necessarily an EBT benefit… because the Cleveland Museum of Art is always free to the public!

Cleveland Museum of Natural History – $1

Discover the wonders of the universe through the museum’s exhibits, animals, hikes, and more! moCa seeks to inspire a love for science and nature through their educational programs and exhibits.

Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland- FREE

This non-traditional art museum celebrates the arts and artists of our time. The art featured here changes every season, so there’s always something new and interesting to experience.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – $1

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame showcases the best the genre has to offer. Rock out with your own band in the garage, admire autographs and artifacts from some of the greatest performers and more for just $1 per person.

Columbus

Central Ohio Fire Museum – $3 per person

The Central Ohio Fire Museum is located inside a restored 1908 engine house. The museum offers guided tours and interactive programs that intrigue guests of all ages.

Center of Science and Industry (COSI) – $49 per family, per year

If you have an Ohio Directions card, Medicaid card or WIC enrollment paperwork, you can save up to a lot of money on a COSI family membership! Instead of the full family membership rate, you’ll pay just $49 for a Family Access membership.

Columbus Museum of Art – $3

The Columbus Museum of Art strives to make great art available for everyone. As a Museums for All partner, they have increased access for low income people with an EBT discount.

Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens – $3

When you show a photo ID and an Ohio Directions card can receive entrance for just $3 per person. Visitors can also get free admission on the first Sunday of the month between 10am and 5pm.

You can also qualify for a discounted access membership. For just $35, you can receive unlimited admission for a year for up to two adults and all children under age 18. This pass usually costs $80!­

National Veterans Memorial and Museum – $1

This is the only museum in America that honors all veterans from all branches of service and all eras, including peacetime. It is not a war memorial or a military museum. Instead, it focuses on the stories and shared experiences of individual veterans.

Ohio History Center & Ohio Village – $3 or less per person

Explore 19th century Ohio life in person in Ohio Village! Villagers and artisans are available to help bring you into the store and enhance your experience. Chat with the residents to learn their stories, try some 1890s activities and more!

Orton Geological Museum – FREE

The Orton Geological Museum showcases rocks, minerals and fossils from Ohio and around the world! They even have some artifacts from outer space as well.

Wexner Center for the Arts – $3 or less per person

Visit the exhibits at the Wex for $3 or less per person with your EBT card.

Dayton

Boonshoft Museum of Discovery – $3 or less per person

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery was formerly known as the Dayton Museum of Natural History. It is a Museums for All partner.

Dayton Art Institute – $3 per person

Founded in 1919, the Dayton Art Institute is one of the region’s best fine art museums. The collection spans over 5,000 years of art history.

Military families are free until Labor Day through the Blue Star Museum program.

The International Peace Museum – Donations

Visit America’s only brick-and-mortar peace museum, dedicated to finding, celebrating and teaching nonviolent approaches to conflict resolution.

Victoria Theatre Association – Deep Discounts

The Victoria Theatre Association offers deeply discounted seats through the Dayton Power & Light Company CHEAP SEATS program. This program provides balcony seats for select performances. This is not an EBT specific discount, so anyone can purchase them! Get the details on the Dayton Live website.

Dover

Reeves Victorian Home and Carriage House Museum – $3 or less per person

This 17-room Victorian home features an upstairs ballroom, and beautiful family furnishings arranged as they would have been 100 years ago. The Carriage House features the family’s original 1892 carriage, a family sleigh, a rare 1922 electric car and a doctor’s buggy.

Findlay

Children’s Museum of Findlay – $3 or less per person

The Children’s Museum of Findlay is an interactive play space for children. At the museum, children can use their imaginations to pretend to be a firefighter, shop for groceries, practice recycling and more.

Kent

Kent State University Museum – $3 or less per person

View collections of fashion and decorative arts, gathered from many of the world’s greatest artists and designers. This is linked to the Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising at Kent State University.

Kirtland

Holden Arboretum – $1 per person

More than 20 miles of hiking trails snake through the 3,600 acres of the Holden Arboretum, making this one of the largest arboreta in the US. There are more than 120,000 plants here and the venue has been designated an Important Bird Area by the Audubon Society. There is also a visitor’s center, reference library and picnic area here.

The arboretum now also offers a new membership level for individuals and families using WIC, Medicaid, or EBT benefits.  The Access Membership costs $25 for a full year, and is equivalent to the Family level membership (covering 2 adults and children under the age of 18).  Members have access to both Holden Arboretum and the Cleveland Botanical Garden. 

Lancaster

AHA! A Hands-On Adventure Children’s Museum – $3 per person

Explore 30 hands-on exhibits across 4,000 square feet of adventure space! AHA! encourages children to get busy in the “work” of play. Children under 6 months old are free.

Decorative Arts Center of Ohio – FREE

The Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, located in Lancaster, is housed in the stunning Reese-Peters House, an example of Federal-Greek Revival architecture. This museum specializes in the celebration and preservation of the decorative arts, showcasing a wide array of Ohio and American art pieces, including glass, ceramics, textiles, and furniture. The center’s exhibitions often rotate, offering fresh perspectives on both historical and contemporary decorative arts. It also offers educational programs and workshops, making it a great destination for art enthusiasts and those interested in the rich tapestry of American decorative arts.

Georgian Museum – $3 or less per person

The Georgian Museum features beautifully resorted Federal style architecture, dollhouses and miniatures, a restored kitchen and more.

Sherman House Museum – $3 or less per person

Visit the birthplace of General William Tecumseh Sherman, US Senator John Sherman and the remarkable Sherman family. The original 1811 frame house has been restored to how they would have looked when the Shermans lived there. Admission includes a guided tour.

Loudonville

Cleo Redd Fisher Museum – FREE

This museum showcases the history of the Mohican region.

Mansfield

Kingwood Center Gardens – $1 per person

Visit a half dozen elegant gardens, a mansion, greenhouse, garden shop and more! Picnicking and carry-in food are welcome! Guided tours are available. You can bring up to four (4) guests with you, for $1 each. Children ages 12 and under are free.

Buckeye Imagination Museum – $1 per person

The Buckeye Imagination Museum does a fantastic job of making sure their museum is accessible for everyone. If you have an Ohio Directions Card (EBT) and photo ID, you can bring four people (including yourself) to the museum for just $1. The same discount is available with an active-duty military ID! Visitors in a wheelchair receive free admission and veterans receive a discounted rate of just $6 per person (up to four people).

Massillon

Massillon Museum – FREE

MassMu, also known as the Massillon Museum, features rotating exhibits, events and programs. They also have some fascinating personal collections. This historical museum is completely free!

Spring Hill Historic Home & Underground Railroad Site – $3 or less per person

Tour the 16-acre property which includes woods, fields, gardens, outbuildings and more. It is part of the Underground Railroad Network.

Mt. Vernon

Science & Play Intersect (SPI) – $1 per person

Science & Play Intersect (SPI) is a fun and engaging science center. They offer many financial accessibility programs. In addition to being a Museums for All partner, they also offer a limited number of FREE memberships to families in need! Apply at SPI for the membership program. Parking is free!

Newark

Dawes Arboretum – $3 or less per person

Explore nearly 2,000 acres at Dawes Arboretum! They have 12 miles of trails and an informative auto tour. Be sure to check out the Japanese Garden and the Observation Tower!

The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology – $3 or less per person

Experience it all at The Works! They have a planetarium, glassblowing studio, art gallery and more! They also offer a plethora of science exhibits and classes.

Oberlin

Oberlin Heritage Center – FREE

The Oberlin Heritage Center, situated in the historic town of Oberlin, is a vibrant community resource dedicated to preserving and sharing the town’s rich history. The center comprises several historic buildings, including the Monroe House, the Little Red Schoolhouse, and the Jewett House, offering guided tours that explore Oberlin’s significant role in the abolitionist movement, women’s rights, and education. Perrysburg

Fort Meigs Historic Site – $3 or less per person

Sandusky

Maritime Museum of Sandusky – $3 or less per person

Springfield

Hartman Rock Garden – FREE

The Hartman Rock Garden offers free self-guided tours.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westcott House – FREE

Designed in 1906 and built in 1908, the Westcott House was a lost Wright artifact that has since been restored.

Springfield Museum of Art – FREE

The Springfield Museum of Art welcomes four adults for free with each EBT card. Children 17 and under are always free.

Toledo

Imagination Station – $3 per person

When you bring an EBT card to Discovery Station, up to 8 people in your group can get a discount!

National Museum of the Great Lakes – FREE ($3 admission for Boats)

The National Museum of the Great Lakes has it all! They have over 300 actifacts, audiovisual displays, 40 hands-on exhibits, and even a 617-foot iron ore freighter! The stories told here span from the fur traders of the 1600s to the Underground Railroad in the 1800s and the sailors that are still sailing today. It’s a great place to explore! With their EBT discount, you can visit the Museum for FREE or pay $3 per person for admission to the Boats.

Warren

Medici Museum of Art – FREE

The Medici Museum of Art welcomes guests and recommends that you spend an hour or two viewing the collection.

National Packard Museum – $1 per person

This museum showcases the Packard legacy, including Packard’s influence in transportation and industrial history.

Trumbull County Historical Society Museum – Donations

Trumbull County Museum provides permanent and rotating exhibits, programs, events and more. Admission is on a “pay as you can,” basis. Also, if you show your EBT card, you will receive free admission for the John Stark Edwards House tour.

Wauseon

Museum of Fulton County $3 or less

Explore the rich history of the local area for less than the full price of admission.

Youngstown

OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology – $3 per person

OH WOW! is an exciting interactive museum for young interactive thinkers. The focus is on children under age 14, which makes this an exciting and engaging children’s museum. As a Museums for All member, they offer an EBT discount.

Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor – $3 per person

Discover Ohio’s rich history of industry, manufacturing, and more. They combine artifacts, taped interviews, and full-scale recreations.

Zoar

Historic Zoar Village – $3 or less per person

Explore Historic Zoar Village, founded in 1817 by a group of German separatists seeking escape from religious persecution. They lived in this unique society for more than 80 years!
