Electric bills can be so confusing. Fortunately, Coast Electric offers a useful online guide designed to help you understand your bill.

Standard-rate customers who have at least 12 months of usage at their address can opt for levelized building. This program averages your last 12 months of usage to determine your monthly payment amount. This helps you avoid seasonally high bills by keeping your payments roughly equal all year long.

If you would rather pay throughout the month instead of once per month, you may prefer to participate in the Prepay Metering ProgramThis program allows you to pay for energy as you use it. You can pay daily, weekly, biweekly or whenever you want! It’s like filling your gas tank – just make sure to put more money in your account or you will run out! You have to keep the balance above $25 or you’ll be disconnected within two days of dropping below that threshold.

You may be able to save money on a Time of Use plan!

If you can avoid using electricity during certain hours, you may benefit from switching to the Time of Use rate.

By default, customers are placed on a standard plan. Under the Time of Use plan, you will save money by using electricity during off-peak hours and reducing your usage during on-peak hours.

The peak hours vary depending on the season. During the summer period, the on-peak hours you would need to avoid are between 3pm and 6pm on weekdays. During winter, the on-peak hours are between 6am to 8am.

To save money on the Time of Use plan, you’ll need to move at least 75% of your electric use to the non-peak hours.

Be careful, though… When you sign up for Time of Use, there’s a minimum six month agreement!

Fortunately, Coast Electric offers a six month guarantee for the first time you try Time of Use. This guarantee ensures that you don’t risk spending more than you would’ve on the standard plan. After six months, if you determine you’ve spent more on Time of Use than you would’ve under a standard plan, you can cancel the Time of Use agreement and request a credit for the difference.

Save money with weatherization upgrades and more!

You can save significant amounts of money on your future Coast Electric bills with these helpful programs.

Use Coast Electric’s online energy use analysis tool to determine where your energy consumes the most electricity and how you can save money on your monthly bill. You’ll answer questions about the size, location and appliances in your home that will help the analyzer determine where and how you can save the most money each month. You can also estimate how much energy your appliances, lighting, TV and thermostat are costing you each month with these handy calculators.

Of course, you could opt for a FREE in-home energy audit from one of Coast Electric’s trained representatives! They’ll send someone to your home at no charge to help you identify where your home consumes the most energy. They’ll give you customized advice on how to reduce your bills every month!

The Mississippi Department of Human Services’ Weatherization Program can help you reduce your energy costs by providing FREE weatherization services that make your home more energy efficient! This program serves those who earn 200% or less of the current federal poverty guidelines. They prioritize services to elderly, disabled and low-income families with young kids. Apply at your local community action agency (here’s a directory).

Coast Electric promotes FilterChange.coop, a service that will ship new filters for your furnace or air conditioner to your home. The shipping is free and the filters are affordable. Frequently changing your filters can reduce your heating and cooling costs by up to 15 percent!

Of course, you may be eligible for rebates if you complete these upgrades yourself!
