If you don’t have a St. Louis County Library card, you’re missing out on some amazing perks. We’ve written up several posts about library systems all around the country but this one is definitely one of our favorites. We’re astronomy fans here – and the SLCP lets you check out telescopes for a whole week!

The St Louis County Library offers access to many different types of software. Some can be checked out for home use; others can be used directly from the Internet!

Stream free movies and videos with Hoopla and Overdrive.

Access free e-Books like the TumbleBook LibraryEBSCO eBooks and Biblioboard.

Download free audio books fromOne Click Digital. 

Download digital magazines from Zinio, There are more than 300 available – and some are enhanced with audio, video and live links!

Learn new skills with online and offline library resources!

Enroll in interactive, instructor-led online courses from Gale Courses. The classes last six weeks and new sessions begin ever month! You can access these courses free with your library card. Study various topics, including accounting, business, computer applications, design, composition, health care, language, arts, law, teaching, technology, writing and personal development.

Learn something new with Universal Class. There are over 500 classes to choose from. You’ll learn at your own pace while working with a real instructor. From Algebra to Yoga, there’s something for everyone!

Learn computer and software skills from Lynda.com. More than 1,900 online courses are available, covering topics from animation to programming and more!

Learn a new language with Mango Languages! Over 60 foreign language courses are available.

Get help with your taxes if you’re a senior citizen! AARP Tax Aides are available. Different library branches have different requirements. Click here for details. 

Start or expand your small business with help from the library! Librarians can train you on exclusive library resources like DemographicsNow, Mergent Intellect, ReferenceUSA and more.

Check out a telescope and other science gadgets!

Thanks to generous donations from the Astronomical Society and St. Louis County Library Foundation, patrons can take home a telescope for up to seven days! Call (314) 994-3300 to reserve yours!

Parents and kids can also check out Sci-Finders Kits for up to two weeks! These kits include learning activities, experiments and books.

Kids & teens love St. Louis County Library!

FLIP Kits encourage early reading! These kits are free to check out for two weeks. Each kit contains a book and activities.

Kids and teens can also engage in writing contests! The Write Stuff Contest is for creative writing; the Young Adult Poetry Contest is for poetry.

Disabled patrons can receive home delivery.

Homebound patrons can receive Books by Mail. If you are unable to visit the library due to illness, disability, advanced age or because you are the full-time caregiver of someone who is homebound, the St. Louis County Library can mail you books, magazines, DVDs and CDs. The materials are mailed in zippered bags that include a free return label.
