Colorado Housing and Finance Authority offers foreclosure prevention services. 

Colorado Housing Assistance Corporation offers mortgage delinquency counseling and foreclosure prevention services for Colorado homeowners.

Please remember that certain cities also offer home repair grants that may be more helpful or easier to obtain than the county programs. Be sure to check the city list in the next section of this article for more information!

Bent, Crowley and Otero Counties are served by Tri-County Housing & Community Development Corporation. This agency provides an Owner-Occupied Rehab program that provides some limited funding for homeowners who need to make repairs to the home they are currently living in. The repairs must be necessary to strengthen structural integrity or protect the health/safety of the owner and occupants. Home modifications for elderly disabled family members may also be financed through this program.

Cheyenne, Elbert, Kit Carson, and Lincoln Counties are served by Prairie Development Corp. This agency provides affordable, low-cost loans to homeowners who need to make emergency repairs or rehabilitate their homes.

Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel Counties are served by Delta Housing Authority, which offers affordable loans for eligible homeowners. You could borrow up to $24,999 with easy terms and interest rates between one and four percent! These loans include free inspection, consulting and construction management services. You can choose your own contractor or complete the repairs yourself! These funds can be used to pay for roofing, electrical, plumbing, gutters, windows, doors, heating systems, weatherization services, code violation correction or handicap accessibility modifications.

Huerfano and Los Animas County residents are served by the South Central Council of Governments. This agency provides up to $24,999 in financing to assist homeowners with repairing or upgrading their homes. You can use these funds to repair electrical, plumbing, heating, foundation, roofing or septic issues. You can also use the funds to install disability modifications, such as walk-in tubs and showers.

Larimer County is served by the Loveland Housing Authority. This program provides affordable loans of up to $24,999 to assist with repairs! These loans have a zero to 2 percent interest rate and a 30 year term.

Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgewick, Yuma and Washington Counties are served by Northeast Colorado Housing Inc. This agency provides home rehabilitation loans, foreclosure counseling, Medicaid home modifications and other services for homeowners in the northeast Colorado area.

Weld County is served by High Plains Housing Development Corp. This agency provides foreclosure counseling, budget and credit counseling and other services to homeowners in the Weld County area.

Get home repair grants and low-cost loans from these Colorado cities!

Boulder offers home repair loans of up to $25,000 to low income homeowners in the city. Repayment of the loan is deferred for 15 years or until you sell the home, whichever comes first. These funds can be used to help fix health and safety repairs or to install energy conservation measures! They also have a program for mobile homes.

Colorado Springs provides several helpful home repair grants for existing homeowners in the city of Colorado Springs.

The Architectural Barrier Removal Program provides home modifications for families with a physically disabled member. This one-time assistance grant provides permanent modifications, including ramps, handrails, widening door openings, safety grab bars and more. Mobile home modifications are limited to ramps or steps.

The Emergency Repair Program provides a grant up to $2,500 to resolve emergency issues with plumbing, furnaces, boilers, hot water heaters, electrical or glass breakage. You can receive up to $7,500 to assist with sewer needs but this is a lifetime limit. Mobile and manufactured homes are limited to plumbing and mechanical systems repairs only.

Lights and Locks for Seniors provides security improvements for low and moderate income adults who are at least 55 years old. These improvements may include deadbolts, peep holes, motion-activated lighting, replacement of exterior doors and safety chains. The maximum grant for homeowners is $1,500. Renters may receive up to $750 in improvements with permission from the landlord.

Owner Occupant Rehab Grants can help you repair or replace doors, windows, roofing, hot water heaters, furnaces, flooring, plumbing, electrical systems and more. These funds can also be used to make energy efficient upgrades to the home. The funds are disbursed from the city to the contractor to complete these repairs. Lead-based paint and asbestos testing may be required.

Commerce City provides home rehabilitation loans to low income homeowners who need to make repairs, such as electrical rewiring. These loans accrue between 3.5 to 5 percent interest. As long as repairs don’t exceed the $10,000 loan limit, you can use the funds to fix foundation issues, siding, painting, windows, plumbing, emergency repairs and more!

Longmont provides up to $25,000 in home repair loans and up to $5,000 in disability modification grants for homeowners. They also provide up to $5,000 in grants for mobile home owners and up to $2,500 for emergency repair grants.

Pueblo can give you a home repair grant! This grant helps low and moderate income households with minor home repair expenses. The application is available on the Pueblo website.

These agencies may assist with repairs statewide.

Habitat for Humanity may be able to provide housing rehabilitation services in certain limited circumstances (such as the “ReBuild” initiative after the 2013 floods) and can usually provide discounted repair materials through their ReStore locations.

Rebuilding Together currently has a few offices in Colorado. This agency can assist with some repairs.
