As the 2019 government shutdown sets records for the longest-ever government shutdown, many organizations and companies are stepping up to help the furloughed federal employees who are not getting paid during this time.

AIO Food Pantry in Rockland is offering assistance to those affected by the shutdown.
Maine Maritime Museum in Bath is offering free admission for federal workers and their immediate families. The deal lasts through the shutdown.
Cafe Sorpreso in Presque Isle offers free lunches throughout the shutdown.
Cafe Demoiselles in Presque Isle is also offering free lunches throughout the shutdown.
Moe’s Original BBQ in Bangor is offering a special deal on their meals. A regular sandwich meal platter will cost just $3, instead of the usual $9.50 – $15 rate.
Wired Cafe in Houlton is offering a free soup and sandwich lunch to anyone impacted by the shutdown. The owner, Jim Bill, encourages everyone to tell him how they were impacted and to tip their server as generously as they are able to.
YMCA in Bangor is offering free memberships to government employees during the shutdown.
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is offering free tickets! There is a limit of two tickets per valid government ID.
Baltimore Museum of Industry is offering free admission to federal workers during the government shutdown.
Bark! Pawsitive Petfood is offering a free bag of pet food with a government ID.
Imagine Yoga & Wellness Center is offering a free restorative yoga class every Monday morning during the shutdown for affected federal employees. The class continues until the shutdown ends!
Jaleo offers a free Flauta de Jamon Serrano daily to federal workers with valid ID.
Scratch Kitchen has a daily Furlough Dinner Special. Each meal feeds 4-6 people and costs just $20! Options include chicken pot pie, chicken and biscuits, baked ziti and meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Eight hours advance notice is required. Free delivery in certain areas. Details here.
Many food banks are waiving their usual criteria to assist families affected by the shutdown. See a list here.
Many Humane Societies and Animal Welfare Leagues are offering free pet food for families affected by the shutdown. Contact your local agency for more information.

- Charles County Public Schools in La Plata, MD
British Beer Company is offering up to $50 worth of free food at any of the pub’s locations. To receive food, you’ll need to present a valid government ID. The free food does not include alcohol.
Friendly Toast is offering free meals to affected federal employees. Each employee can bring one guest, who will also dine free. The offer includes entrees and specials, but not alcohol or appetizers.
Cape Cod Military, Veteran and Family Collaborative offers help with baby needs and other resources. This is exclusively for military and veteran families – including Coast Guard families affected by the shutdown.
Bayside Market in Traverse Bay is offering to pay for the groceries of servicemen with valid IDs. Donations from residents and suppliers are helping make this possible.
Blue Nile Ethopian Restaurant in Ferndale is offering free meals to 14 furloughed federal workers per day. The offer is on a first-come, first-serve basis and is limited to 14 meals per day. I’ve also read that you can message their Facebook page for a reservation.
Harmony Health Foods is providing a free in-store charge account to federal employees who are not being paid through the shutdown. This allows shoppers to continue shopping on credit until they receive their regular pay.
Java Joe’s in St. Ignace is offering free breakfast to any member of the Coast Guard during the shutdown.
Mason Jar Cafe in Benton Harbor is offering free meals to affected workers and their families. The deal lasts until the shutdown ends.
Michael Moore has opened his two Michigan theaters for free. Furloughed employees and their families can get free tickets, free popcorn and free soda until the shutdown ends.
Old Mission Bakery is offering 90% discounts to US Coast Guard personnel throughout the shutdown. In the comments of their Facebook post, they also said it was extended to the park service and other affected departments. Proper ID is required.
Rosemary’s Hair Gallery in St. Ignace is offering free hair cuts to Coast Guard personnel with military ID. The deal continues until the shutdown is resolved.
Toarmina’s Pizza and Burritos is offering free lunches to federal employees. Those with a valid federal ID can receive one menu item on weekdays between 2 and 5 pm.
Union Joints is offering free macaroni and cheese for affected employees and one family member. The deal is available every Monday through the shutdown.
Birchwood Cafe in Minneapolis is offering free meals for federal workers, their partners and their children throughout the shutdown. There is a limited menu but the meals are available all day.
Brake Bread provides free bread to federal employees in St. Paul.
Minnesota Children’s Museum provides free admission to federal employees and their families during the shutdown.
Science Museum of Minnesota is offering free admission to the museum and free Omnitheater tickets. Each employee can get free tickets for themselves and up to three guests! This deal lasts until the shutdown ends.
The French Potager in Bay St. Louis invites affected federal workers into the shop to create a free bouquet. The deal is available on Friday the 18th. It is unclear if it will be a recurring event.
The Mockingbird Cafe in Bay St. Louis offers a free meal with out-of-work government employees.
Coast Coffee Shop in Bay St. Louis is offering a free fried bologna sandwich to federal employees. This event occurs every Friday.
Kansas City Public Transit offers free bus rides to all federal workers with valid ID.
Walnut Grill O’Fallon is helping furloughed workers and their children! They offer a free beverage and your choice of sandwiches, salads or flatbread pizzas. The offer is limited to one item per person per day.
Billings Federal Credit Union offers affected customers the opportunity to skip a payment on a loan. Federal workers can also take out a 60-day interest-free loan, if needed.
Teriyaki Madness in Great Falls offers unpaid TSA agents a free regular size teriyaki bowl on January 16th. Just bring your work identification card to redeem this offer.
Alamo Drafthouse is providing one free movie ticket! Affected federal employees can get one ticket every day, Monday through Thursday, through the end of January.
Ref’s Sports Bar & Grill provides one $10 meal per federal employee with valid ID.
Rail Explorers Las Vegas offers free rides for furloughed federal employees and their families. This is a huge deal because the rides are usually $45 per person! Contractors who have been impacted can also ride for free. For reservations and details, call (877) 833-8588.
British Beer Company is offering up to $50 worth of free food at any of the pub’s locations. To receive food, you’ll need to present a valid government ID. The free food does not include alcohol.
A.C. Iron Room in Atlantic City offered free dinners to Coast Guards and their spouses.
C-View Inn offers 50% discounts for Coast Guard personnel during the shutdown.
Brunswick Brazilian Jiu-Jitzu announced on Instagram: “Attention all government employees affected by government shutdown. You can train for free at @brunswickbjj until you start getting that cash money again.”
Downtown Dhaba in Westwood is offering free lunches to federal employees and their families during the shutdown. The offer is also valid at Nirvana Indian Kitchen.
Middlesex Community College is also offering payment deferments for students and dependents of federal employees or contractors.
OceanFirst Bank stated that they will suspend mortgage and home equity loan payments for up to 90 days without any additional fees and interest.
Steve’s Burgers in Garfield is offering free cheeseburger and fries to all government employees affected by the shutdown. It is uncertain how long this offer will last.
New Mexico State Parks are offering free day use for furloughed federal workers. Affected workers can visit all 34 state parks absolutely free!
New Mexico Highlands University offers free online classes to furloughed federal employees. The offered class focuses on geographic information systems. It begins January 16 and lasts eight weeks. It introduces mapping technology, global positioning systems, GISand remote sensing. Apply for the class at www.nmhu.edu/GIS.
Angel Fire Resort is offering free lift tickets to furloughed workers. A valid federal ID and furlough notice letter are required.
McDonald’s locations in Roswell and Artesia will give furloughed employees one meal every day during the shutdown. You must bring your most recent check stub showing a $0 payment. The team member will date your check each time a meal is provided.
MVD Express will waive convenience fees on vehicle registrations and driver’s license renewals for federal employees and their dependents. The waiver lasts until the shutdown ends. They have 11 locations around New Mexico.
Storehouse New Mexico is a food pantry. Those affected by the federal government shutdown can receive assistance from their Albuquerque location.

Broadway performances, such as Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, are inviting furloughed federal employees to attend free! The free admission is valid for select Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday performances only.
Hogan’s Hideaway in Rochester offers free meals for those impacted by the government shutdown. You’ll need to show your ID or badge to get the meal free.
Hotel Association of NYC will offer free hotel rooms to furloughed federal workers who need to travel to New York City for personal emergencies during the shutdown. In order to apply, you must send an email with the subject line “GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN ROOM APPLICATION” to [email protected]
Jenkinson’s Aquarium is offering free admission. Furloughed workers can obtain one free adult admission and one free child admission during specific dates.
Rocco’s Tacos is giving away a $20 one-time credit to furloughed employees with valid government ID. Claim yours by Saturday, January 20!
Suffolk County SPCA has free food for those who are affected by the shutdown. They encourage people to contact them at (631) 382-7722 for help.
Brooklyn Academy of Music invites furloughed federal workers to see the first show of the day free! Monday through Thursdays only.
Massage Outpost in Brooklyn is offering free one-hour massages to furloughed government workers. Each massage is a $120 value! You must make appointments online or over the phone.
Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum in Poughkeepsie is offering a “Federal Workers Free Pizza and Play Family Night.” Families with at least one federal employee will receive free admission for two adults and their children. The event is free but you need to register in advance. The next one is January 16!
42 and Lawrence is offering a free small drip or cold brew to federal employees.
Be Yoga offers free early bird classes to affected government workers. They have two locations.
Bishops is offering free haircuts to furloughed federal employees.
Color Bar Hair Salon in Waxhaw is also offering free hair cuts. Their Facebook post encourages you to call (704) 843-3400 and mention the government ticket.
CORE Fitness Studio in Raleigh is offering one month of free unlimited classes to furloughed government employees.
Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden offers free admission to furloughed employees and one guest. This deal lasts until January 31st.
I Am Yoga offers free yoga classes during the shutdown. The classes are held at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Market at Cedar Point offers credit to unpaid federal workers during the government shutdown. You will be issued a credit slip, which you will be expected to repay when the government opens again.
Paradisa Roma Ristorante in Elizabeth City is offering a family style dinner for those affected by the shutdown. They responded to my request for more information with this comment: “The meal would be a family style (bowl big enough for however many you are trying to feed) of homemade pasta and meatballs. We would make your family a reservation at a time that works for you and you would come enjoy a stress-free meal.”
Pure Pizza in Charlotte is offering free food for affected workers and their families.
Salon M2 offers free haircuts to furloughed employees. Their Facebook post instructs eligible guests to call (980) 939-1983 and mention the government shutdown pass.
Sky Asian Bistro in Pineville is offering free food for affected employees and their families on Sundays throughout the shutdown. Care packages, gift cards and raffle prizes will be given away during the event. The meal is available between 11 am and 5 pm on January 20th and 27th.
Smashed Waffles is offering a free Smashedwich to all federal government employees. You can get one each day of the shutdown! Just bring your federal ID.
Trophy Brewing in Raleigh is offering a free small pizza to each furloughed government employee. If there are two in a group, they can receive a free large pizza instead. Valid ID is required.
Queen City Grounds is offering free coffee to furloughed employees. Federal ID is required.
Your Mom’s Donuts is giving away one donut per federal ID, every day of the shutdown.
The American Federation of Teachers is offering zero-interest loans for members who are affected by the shutdown. This union includes teachers, correctional officers, firefighters, engineers and budget analysts who work with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and other tribal agencies. This loan is a 12 month, zero-interest, no-credit-check loan for up to $1,500. No payments are due until the shutdown ends.
Condado Tacos is offering a free taco with a government ID. They have locations in Columbus and Cincinnati.
Lago East Bank in Cleveland is offering free pasta and meatballs to all federal employees. Just show your government ID to receive your free meal!
Ohio State School of Cosmetology provides free hair services to all furloughed federal employees and their immediate family members. This service will last throughout the shutdown and is valid at all their locations.
SENATE Restaurant in Cincinnati wrote on Facebook, “We’ve never been a fan of taking money out of the pockets of hard working men and women. Therefore, we’ll be providing free food for all government workers and their kids affected by the government shutdown.”
Stouffer’s is offering free meals on specific dates.
Legacy Bank allows customers who are federal employees to overdraw their accounts without any fees. Eligible customers can overdraft up to the amount of their back-pay without any penalties.
Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum is offering free admission to federal employees throughout the shutdown.
Little Shop of Hairs is offering free haircuts for all federal employees throughout the shutdown. Call (503) 208-2104 for an appointment. This is valid at the PDX location.
Oregon Humane Society has distributed free pet food. It is unclear if this will happen again.
Oregon Zoo is providing free admission to unpaid federal workers and their families until the shutdown ends. This deal is also available to federal contractors.
Portland Japanese Garden is offering free admission to furloughed federal employees and contractors. Up to four family members can visit free!

Condado Tacos in Pittsburgh is offering a free taco with a government ID.
Museum of the American Revolution is offering free admission to all furloughed federal workers. Each employee can bring three guests for free! This lasts until the shutdown ends.
Philly POPS are offering free tickets to select performances of JAZZED! through January 20th. Affected government employees can present their IDs for two free tickets.
Pineville Tavern offers free chicken dinners to affected federal workers. The meal is provided for the employee and their immediate family. It’s valid every night of the week until the shutdown is resolved.
Temple University Dentistry is offering free dental care to furloughed federal workers. You must call (215) 707-2900 for an appointment. Walk-ins are accepted until 3pm.
Bon Appétit Management Company is providing free hot meals to active-duty Coast Guard members and their families.
O’Brien’s Pub in Newport is offering a free cheese or pepperoni pizza to those who aren’t being paid during the shutdown.
Rhode Island food banks can assist anyone who needs food during this time.
Banditos in Myrtle Beach is offering a free order of Banditos tacos to all federal workers with valid government ID.
Steel Street Pizza in North Charleston is offering a free large two-topping pizza to certain employees. The offer is limited to Active Duty Coast Guard and Federal Law Enforcement Officials, and their families.
Time Well Spent Tea Room invites Coast Guard, FAA and TSA workers and their spouses to visit for one free meal during the shutdown. Remember to tip the staff!
Wando River Grill in Mount Pleasant is offering free meals to any Coast Guard or TSA workers who visit. Valid ID is required.
Green Oven Crepe Cafe in Spearfish offered a few designated free meals. They have also encouraged people to drop off donations and sponsor meals, so there may be additional help available.
Rapid City Area School District encourages parents affected by the shutdown to apply for free or reduced meals.
Yassin’s Falafel House in Knoxville is offering free meals to government employees. Valid ID is required.
2M Smokehouse in San Antonio is offering two free pulled pork tacos for affected workers. The tacos are available every Friday during the shutdown.
Bakery Lorraine in San Antonio provides a free coffee and breakfast pastery to furloughed employees with a government ID. The deal is valid all day at all four San Antonio locations and their Austin outpost, until the shutdown ends!
Capital Metro in Austin is offering free transit rides to federal employees. Just show your ID to ride the MetroBus, MetroRail, MetroAccess for free!
Chef’s Table offers food, gift cards and assistance to families affected by the shutdown. You must be a federal worker/contractor and live in the Greater Bay Area Housing and Galveston County area.
Clear Creek Chiropractic Center in League City is offering free treatments for Coast Guard employees and family members during the shutdown.
Kids’ Meals in Houston is offering free children’s meals. To be eligible, children must be under the age of 6 and dependent on a furloughed federal worker.
Poke3 in El Paso is offering a free bowl to affected workers each Saturday and Sunday until the shutdown ends. The meal has a $7.95 value. It can be one of the signature menu bowls or your own creation using raw or nonraw rice or needles.
Runway Cafe in Angleton offers free meals to Coast Guard members during teh shut down.
Stefano’s Pizza Express in Pharr is offering free pizzas, calzones, Philly cheesesteaks and more to furloughed federal workers.
Texas Diaper Bank is offering up to 6 months of free diapers to government employees/contractors in the greater San Antonio area. You’ll need to supply proof of government employment, guardianship and an ID. You need to sign up by February 1st!
Web County is offering free marriage licenses to affected federal employees. The free marriages will be performed in the first floor of the courthouse at 901 S. Milmo Avenue in Laredo.
Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum in SLC is offering free admission to furloughed employees and their families.
Great Harvest Bread Company offers free bread loaves to those affected by the shutdown. They have locations in in Holladay, Lehi, Ogden, St. George, Taylorsville and Vineyard.
Grizzlies are offering free admission to employees affected by the shutdown.
Hogle Zoo is offering free admission to furloughed workers and their immediate families.
LW’s Truck Stop in Logan provides free lunches for furloughed federal employees.
MayMoes in Logan is offering free breakfast every Saturday morning for furloughed federal employees. The owner says that this service will continue until the govenrment reopens or the business runs out of money (or food).
Perks Espresso & Smoothies in Cedar City is offering a free 16 ounce house-brewed coffee.
RC Willey will defer payments for affected federal workers. Customers are encouraged to call (877) 315-0183 if they qualify.
Same Day Heating and Air in Salt Lake City will waive diagnostic fees and offer 20% discounts to furloughed employees.
Squatters in Salt Lake City is offering 350 boxed lunches every Monday for TSA employees.
Utah Symphony and Utah Opera are providing free tickets to select performances. Affected federal employees may request a pair of tickets or enough for their immediate family. However, the performances are only for children ages five and up.
Weber County Animal Shelter is giving away free animal food to any Weber County residents that provide valid federal ID.
Montshire Museum of Science is offering free admission for furloughed employees and those working without pay. You must have a valid federal ID and live in either Vermont or New Hampshire. Employees may bring one guest for free, also. The offer will continue until the end of January.
3 Amigos Hickory in Chesapeake is offering free tacos to affected Coast Guard personnel.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema invites federal employees to enjoy free movies throughout the month of January. The tickets are valid Monday through Thursday at their Ashburn, Woodbridge, Charlottesville and Winchester locations. The tickets are limited to employees with ID only. No guests.
Bubba’s Shrimp Shack allows Coast Guard members the opportunity to run a tab at any of their restaurant locations. Simply show your ID and you won’t have to pay the restaurant until you get paid.
Commonwealth Exterminating Company is offering a free”over-wintering pest control service” to those affected by the shutdown. It includes baseboard treatment and a full inspection. Make sure the person home for the service is also the person with a current federal ID!
Curves in Alexandria is offering two weeks of free access to female federal employees who are affected by the shutdown.
Destruction Room in Virginia Beach invites frustrated furloughed workers to smash 10 glass items free! Participants write something that is stressing them out on each piece.
Dog Park offers 20% off all dog and cat food for customers who are affected by the shutdown. You’ll need to show government or contractor ID to get the discount.
Fibre Space is offering free learn-to-knit classes for all furloughed employees and contractors.
Helping the Homeless provides free meals every Saturday for those in need. They also distribute non-perishable foods.
Kahiau’s Bakery and Cafe provides free breakfast sandwiches to affected workers. The deal lasts until the shutdown ends.
Mad Fox Brewpub is offering a 20% discount to federal workers. They’ve also stated that they will charge members of Congress 20% more during this time.
Mike’s Mechanical Incorporated is offering up to $200 in free heating and air conditioning service. If the bill exceeds $200, the remainder can be deferred until you’ve received your back pay. You must live within 25 miles of their Newport News office to receive this deal.
Mona Lisa Restaurant and Bar is offering a free slice of pizza to Coast Guard members during the shutdown.
PETA is giving away free vegan dog food at their Norfolk headquarters on January 18, while supplies last. Furloughed workers can call (757) 622-7382 to arrange a pickup time.
Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream is offering free Italian ice to furloughed employees and their immediate families.
Tribal Yoga is offering free classes for government employees who have been furloughed. Contact them about their Karma Pool classes for details.
Wags Doggie Daycare wrote on Facebook, “Government shutdown shouldn’t punish your dog. Government employees not being paid or furloughed get FREE day care at Wags Doggie Daycare for as long as the shutdown drags on.” This service is only valid for current Wags customers. Other restrictions may apply.
Wolves in Wool in Yorktown is offering free haircuts to affected workers.

Crystal Mountain offers free lift tickets for furloughed federal employees. The offer includes a free weekday lift ticket or a scenic ride ticket for the Mt. Rainier Gondola. The offer ends February 1 (or sooner if the government reopens). The offer is not valid on weekends or holidays.
Green’s Fresh Market in Spokane is offering a $30 in-store credit to those who are not getting paid during the shutdown. Proof of employment and valid ID are required for service.
Seattle University is offering free admission to home men’s and women’s basketball games for furloughed workers and their families.
SpokAnimal is giving away free cat and dog food to impacted federal workers in the Spokane area.
Spokane Symphony is offering free tickets to furloughed workers.
Many utility providers, including DC Water and Washington Gas, have offered flexible payment plans to ensure that everyone’s service stays connected.

AMC Georgetown is inviting affected federal employees to a specific showing of Free Solo on Wednesday January 17. Vouchers for free popcorn and soda are included.
American University is offering free classes and courses to affected workers.
Balance Gym is offering free access to their Washington-area locations during the afternoons.
National Building Museum is offering free admission to those affected.
Newseum is offering free admission to those affected.
Climbing New Heights in Martinsburg provides free passes to furloughed employees every Friday during the shutdown. The pass does not include rental gear or instruction.
Door County Maritime Museum is offering free admission to federal employees and their families during the shutdown.
Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra is offering free tickets to their January 25 performance of “Masterworks.” Each federal employee can claim two tickets.
Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc also offers free admission to affected families. The free admission even includes a guided tour of the USS Cobia submarine!
City of Cheyenne invites furloughed employees (and one guest) to visit the Ice and Events Center, Aquatics Center and Civics Center shows/events for free during the shutdown!
