Unlock $5/mo Service with the AT&T SNAP Internet Program

You could get internet for as low as $5 per month from Access from AT&T, also known as the AT&T SNAP Internet Program! This is obviously a great discount for people who qualify.

In this article, we’re going to unravel all the details about AT&T Access. We’ll explore eligibility criteria, guide you through the application process, and even discuss alternative options if you don’t qualify. Let’s dive right in!

What is AT&T Access?

AT&T Access is a low income discount program for people who qualify. If you qualify, you could receive internet service for as little as $5 per month through this program!

Pricing & Speeds

The price you pay will depend on what speeds are available in your area and what your preferences are. In 2024, the pricing structure for AT&T Access is as follows:

  • $5 per month for 3 Mbps
  • $10 per month for 10 Mbps
  • $30 per month for 100 Mbps + unlimited data

You can only get the $5 per month plan if the 10 Mbps speeds aren’t available in your area. If you have access to the 10 Mbps speeds, you will have to choose between either the $10 or $30 per month plan.

During the ACP era, the $30 per month plan became standard because the ACP subsidy completely covered that cost. However, if you don’t mind lower speeds and don’t need unlimited data, you can downgrade to the $10 per month plan to save some money.

Availability

Obviously, service isn’t available everywhere. In order to unlock discounts through Access from AT&T, you will need to live in an area with AT&T coverage.

In 2024, AT&T provides internet service to select areas in a 22 state coverage area, including Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.

How to Get Access from AT&T

Of course, the most important thing you need to know is who is eligible for this program and how you can apply for it. Let’s dive into what it takes to get AT&T Access.

Who is Eligible?

In order to qualify for an internet discount through Access from AT&T, you will need to meet some specific criteria including:

  • Service Area: Your address needs to be located in AT&T’s service area. Use this tool to check if it’s available at your address.
  • Income Limits: You must have a household income that is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. You may be considered categorically eligible if you receive benefits from a means-tested program like SNAP or the National School Lunch Program. That’s why many people refer to Access as the AT&T SNAP Internet Program.
  • Prior Customers: You cannot have a recent unpaid debt to AT&T.

If you live in California, you may also qualify if one member of your household receives Supplemental Security Income.

If you don’t qualify for the AT&T SNAP Internet Program, don’t despair. There are other providers that offer discounts for low income individuals and families. Check our list of low income internet discounts to see what your other options are.

How to Apply

You must apply for Access from AT&T online or through the mail. The company does not allow you to apply at their retail stores.

You will start your application by selecting which documentation you are going to upload to verify your eligibility. In 2024, there are four options that you can choose from but you can only select one of them:

  • SNAP: You can upload a photo of your SNAP card or a copy of your SNAP benefits letter. You will also need your photo ID. Again, this is why so many people call this the AT&T SNAP Internet Program.
  • National School Lunch Program: If you have a child who receives free or reduced price school lunches, you can upload a copy of your NSLP letter or documentation.
  • California SSI: If you receive SSI in California, you can upload a copy of your benefits award letter or recertification.
  • Income Documents: If you earn less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level but don’t qualify with any of the other documents, you can upload your 1099s, W2s or other income documents to prove that you meet the income limits.

Once you select what documentation you’ll be using, you can click the blue “continue” button. Follow the prompts to complete your application.
