Everybody has trouble making their payments on time sometimes. If you’re a Tacoma Public Utilities customer, you can benefit from these helpful payment arrangement policies.
Budget billing helps because it allows you to pay a consistent amount each month. Your annual usage is divided out into eleven equal payments. At the end of those eleven months, the payment is recalculated. This arrangement is available on both Tacoma Power and Tacoma Water accounts.
TPU can also help you change the payment due date. You can choose whether you want to pay on the 10th, 20th or 30th of the month. This service is available on many accounts but not all of them. Call Customer Service for more information.
If you still can’t pay your bill on time, Tacoma Public Utilities offers payment arrangements. They encourage you to contact them as soon as possible for the best arrangement terms.
Did you know that disabled and senior customers can get discounts?
Disabled adults and those age 62+ can receive up to 30% off their Tacoma Public Utilities bill through the Utility Assistance Program! To qualify, you must be at least 62 years old or receiving disability income. You must also live in the home full time and meet other requirements.
All Tacoma Water customers can get free stuff!
If you’re a Tacoma Water customer, you can receive free energy-efficient showerheads, aerators, timers and leak detection dye tablets. These products are all available free of charge! By installing these products, you will be able to reduce your Tacoma Water and Tacoma Power bill simultaneously.

Get help paying your Tacoma Power bill!
Tacoma Public Utilities customers can receive assistance from several difference sources.
You may also be eligible for LIHEAP assistance, which provides low income households with funds to pay their utilities. The payments are made directly to the company. To apply for this program, you will need to contact an administering agency. Tacoma residents must contact Making a Difference in Community. Customers outside Tacoma should contact Pierce County Human Services for more information.
You may also qualify for the Bill Credit Program, which can provide up to $468 per year toward your utility bills! These bill credits are earned each time your bill is paid in-full and on-time. You must meet certain criteria and apply in order to participate in this program.
If you are low income, you may also be eligible for the Winter Protection Plan. This service prevents your utilities from being shut off between November 15 and March 15, as lon gas you pay a certain minimum amount toward your bill each month.
