With all the recent changes to programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and housing assistance, it’s easy to feel uncertain about what your benefits can still do. The good news? Even in 2025, there are still some valuable EBT perks available—and many people don’t even know about them.
Here are five useful things you can still do with your EBT card, no matter what else is changing.
1. Shop for Groceries Online
Despite all the updates and policy shifts, you can still use EBT to shop online at major retailers. Amazon accepts SNAP in all 50 states and EBT cash in 21 states, while Walmart takes both SNAP and EBT cash nationwide. Many smaller local grocers also accept SNAP for online orders, though they’re less likely to take EBT cash.

2. Buy Eligible Gift Baskets with SNAP
This one surprises a lot of people. You can use SNAP to buy gift baskets, as long as most of the value comes from food items such as meats, cheeses, or snacks. This is allowed year-round, but the rules are especially useful for holiday baskets at Easter or Christmas. Just remember—if the basket contains alcohol, tobacco, pet food, or other ineligible items, you won’t be able to purchase it with SNAP.
3. Buy Hot Meals at Restaurants (In Some States)
If your state participates in the Restaurant Meals Program and you’re homeless, over age 60, or disabled and unable to cook at home, you may be able to buy hot meals from restaurants such as Subway, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Burger King, or Denny’s. 4. Double Your SNAP Benefits for Fresh Food
Many states offer programs such as Double Up Food Bucks or Market Match that will double the value of your SNAP dollars when you buy fresh, locally grown produce. 5. Get Discounted Admission to Museums, Zoos & More
Your EBT card can unlock deeply discounted admission—often $5 or less per person—at more than 3,000 museums, zoos, aquariums, and cultural sites nationwide. This includes well-known attractions like Colonial Williamsburg, the Pacific Science Center, and Shedd Aquarium.
