    If you’re struggling to put food on the table, you’re not alone. The Daniel Payne Legacy Village Foundation is stepping up to help families in Birmingham with a new program that provides free, freshly prepared meals every week for a full year.

    What You Need to Know

    The program, called Daniel’s Meal Subscription Service, is designed for low- to moderate-income families living in District 9 of Birmingham. If selected, families will receive 32 to 36 meals per week for a year.

    There’s no cost to apply, but the first 100 families will be chosen through a lottery system. If you win a spot, there’s a $50 activation fee, and meals must be picked up weekly from the Daniel Payne Legacy Village Plaza.

    How to Apply

    1. Enter the online lottery by April 2, 2025.
    2. Or sign up in person at the launch event on April 5, 2025.
    3. Winners will be announced at the event.
    4. If selected, pay the $50 activation fee and start receiving meals.

    • Have kids who need something to do? The Youth Basketball Program helps keep young men active and engaged. Friday nights feature Midnight Run, and Coach Jeff Collins leads structured training sessions.
    • Want to buy a home? The Home Buyer’s Program is an eight-week course that teaches you how to buy a home, find funding, and decide when the time is right.
    • Need computer skills? Free computer classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays in partnership with the Salvation Army.
