Does Pizza Hut Take EBT?

Does Pizza Hut Take EBT?

Does Pizza Hut take EBT? Yes, there are 218 specific locations around the United States that can process SNAP EBT payments through the Restaurant Meals Program.

Before you order that delicious stuffed crust pizza, though, you need to know how this program works. Not everyone who gets EBT can order pizza with those benefits. There are rules about who can order restaurant meals and where, so be sure to read the following details so that you completely understand the program before you try it.

Does Pizza Hut take EBT?

Pizza Hut accepts EBT at 218 restaurants across Arizona and California. These locations must be specifically approved by the government and set up to process SNAP EBT payments.

Don’t worry! If you don’t have a Pizza Hut that takes EBT near you yet, you might have one soon. In the last few years, many other states have announced that they are starting the process to launch a program like this. Hopefully, this will be available in more states soon.

What can you buy with EBT at Pizza Hut?

As you might expect, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program can only be used to purchase food that you can eat. You can’t use those benefits to buy non-food items. However, that’s not really a problem at Pizza Hut since everything they sell is edible.

You should be able to buy any food item on the menu, including:

  • Pizza
  • Wings
  • Breadsticks
  • Cheese sticks
  • Fries
  • Pasta
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Desserts
  • Drinks
  • Dips
  • and more!

Before you place you order, you definitely need to know that you won’t be getting any extra funds through the Restaurant Meals Program. Since SNAP benefits tend to be very low, restaurants can use up those benefits very quickly. You need to budget accordingly. Using online coupons can help stretch your benefits farther.

Who can buy Pizza Hut with EBT?

Only very specific people can purchase Pizza Hut with EBT. You have to meet all the requirements of the Restaurant Meals Program.

In order to be eligible, you must meet all three of these requirements:

  1. You must live in a state with a Restaurant Meals Program.
  2. You must be unable to cook your own meals at home because you are elderly, homeless or disabled.
  3. You must purchase food from approved, participating locations.

Your caseworker should automatically opt you in to this program if you are eligible. They just have to check a certain option in the system to enable your card to run at participating restaurants. Once it’s enabled, you should be able to just run your card like you would at a grocery store.

Which Pizza Hut locations take EBT?

Unfortunately, this is where it gets complicated. Not all Pizza Huts can take EBT. Each location must go through an approval process in order to accept benefits. You can’t use your benefits at a location that isn’t set up to process those payments, so it’s important to go to the right location.

To make it easier, I’ve put together a list of all the participating locations in the United States. It’s organized alphabetically by state, county and city so that you can quickly find a Pizza Hut that takes EBT near you.

Why doesn’t every Pizza Hut take EBT?

Currently, SNAP EBT benefits can be used at 218 of the ~18,000 Pizza Hut locations nationwide. Why can’t more locations take EBT?

It’s complicated. Many political leaders, health care advocates and taxpayers have fought against this program in the past, which has made it difficult to expand. Even in states that do participate, some restaurant owners have decided not to apply because it requires so much paperwork. They also have to meet a lot of requirements, and not all restaurants are eligible to apply.

Basically, there are a variety of reasons why not all locations can process these payments.

How do I pay with EBT at Pizza Hut?

You cannot order delivery with Pizza Hut if you plan to pay with EBT benefits. One of the rules of the program is that you need to use your card in-person. Either you, a member of your household, or your authorized representative must swipe that card at the store in order to buy pizza.

Once you arrive, though, it should be as simple as buying groceries. Just swipe your card in the terminal, and you should be good to go! Just like at the store, you should not be charged sales tax or gratuity. Your receipt should also include your account balance.
