Cheap Vets

Not all veterinary care providers charge the same amount for their services. There are many providers who choose to donate their time and talents to help pets at a low cost vet clinic.

Low-cost veterinary providers tend to offer specific affordable services. It’s important to review the information carefully before making an appointment.

Humane Society of West Texas

Low income pet owners in the Lubbock area can get low-cost microchipping from the Humane Society of West Texas. This service costs $25 and includes the microchipping procedure and registration of your information. This one-time fee will protect your pet for a lifetime.

There are three ways to reach the Humane Society of West Texas:

This provider only offers microchipping and feral spay/neuter services.

PETS Clinic

The PETS Clinic offers low cost services for dogs and cats in Amarillo and Lubbock. Low income pet owners can make an appointment or walk-in for affordable preventative wellness services.

The services offered at the Lubbock location include:

  • Deworming
  • Flea & tick treatments
  • Heartworm meds
  • Microchips
  • Nail trimming
  • Spay & Neuter
  • Vaccinations
  • Vet exams

The prices are very low but the good veterinarians at PETS Clinic know that sometimes even the cheapest service is too much for low income families to afford. In their quest to be one of the best cheap vets in Lubbock, they also offer discounted fees or fee waivers when funding is available.

In order to get free or discounted care, you will need to provide photo ID and proof that you participate in a government assistance program. Qualifying assistance programs may include:

  • CHIP
  • Medicaid
  • Public Housing
  • Section 8
  • WIC

You can contact the Lubbock PETS Clinic by calling (806) 507-0836 or by emailing [email protected]. You can also visit their website for more information.

Financial Assistance for Veterinary Care

There are other options for assistance with your pets in this area, as well.

Haven Hope for Animals Fund

The Haven Hope for Animals Fund provides vouchers for discounted spay and neuter services. Each voucher will list how much the fund will pay toward the service. If the service costs more than the voucher will pay, the pet owner is responsible to pay the difference.

This fund is managed by the Haven Animal Care Shelter in Lubbock. You will need to contact them for more information. You can reach them at (806) 763-0092 or by emailing [email protected].

Joseph Thomas Foundation

The Joseph Thomas Foundation provides financial assistance to families who have a medically fragile child. The financial assistance could theoretically be used to help cover the veterinary costs of that child’s service animal. However, the funds cannot be used to cover expenses already paid. Funds are only awarded for purchases that haven’t been made yet.

In order to be eligible, the child must be under age 21 and experience severe limitations to one or more major life activities due to a mental or physical impairment. The impairment could be genetic or the result of an accident, injury or disease. You must also meet income limits and other restrictions.

In order to apply for financial assistance from the Joseph Thomas Foundation, you will need to fill out this form and send it to the organization.

Lubbock Meals on Wheels Pet Program

The Lubbock Meals on Wheels Pet Program primarily focuses on providing free pet food to low income seniors, as described below. However, their website also indicates that they are able to assist with limited veterinary care expense assistance and even boarding for those who need it.

If you are currently receiving Meals on Wheels, please contact this organization to see if they can help you with your pet’s veterinary expenses.

Free Pet Food

Many studies have shown that low income pet owners tend to skimp on their own needs in order to provide for their furry companions. Since pet food is so expensive, many community organizations have prioritized providing assistance with pet food as well.

Please contact the following organizations to find help with pet food near Lubbock.
