There are some agencies that provide assistance to the majority of the state. No matter where you are located, you can reach out to your local branch for assistance.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army provides holiday meals, toys, clothing and more to low income families. If you’re going to need a little (or a lot) of help this holiday season, contact the Salvation Army right away. You can visit their website to find your local chapter. 

Toys for Tots

Most areas of the US are also served by the Marine’s Toys for Tots campaign. To participate, you’ll need to visit their official website.

Columbus

Free Christmas Gifts In McDuffie County, Georgia

Salvation Army invites low-income families with children aged newborn to 12 years old to take part in their Angel Tree program. This program connects families in need with a sponsor who buys them Christmas gifts and toys and delivers them just before Christmas morning. 

To take part in their services, families with eligible children must live in the home full-time, have a valid form of identification, have a birth certificate (for all children living in the home), social security cards (for all adults living in the home), documentation showing proof of current address in their service areas, and show proof of income and household expenses to verify income eligibility. Toys For Tots holds an annual toy drive and sets out donation boxes every year to give children of low-income families toys during the holiday season. These toys get delivered to registered children the week before Christmas arrives. Parents must register each of their children using the request toys link found on their website. 

Parents must have at least one child aged newborn to 14 years old living in the household full-time, have a social security card for all adults living in the household, have birth certificates for all children living in the home, have a valid form of identification, have documentation showing proof of current address, and have proof of income and household expenses to verify income eligibility. Free Christmas Food In McDuffie County, Georgia

The Salvation Army offers free bags of groceries from their food pantry and holiday dinner boxes filled with ham or turkey and all the traditional holiday fixings. Moreover, they offer a soup kitchen that serves hot meals daily and special hot holiday dinners on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. 

Just like what is said above, if you to register for their services, McDuffie County families must have children who live full-time in the home. Family members must have a valid form of identification, and a birth certificate (for all children living in the home). Muscogee County

Muscogee County residents can get Christmas help from a ton of different agencies around the county. If you’re looking for a little help this season, and live in Columbus, check out this list.

Free Christmas Gifts in Muscogee County, Georgia

Catholic Church of St. Ann in Marietta invites underprivileged families to apply for their Adopt-A-Family program during their time of need. With this program, families receive new toys, books, clothing, food, and other small gifts bought by community members and organizations.

Columbus Dream Center invites low-income Muscogee County families to apply for assistance during the holidays to receive free Christmas shopping experience to pick out  toys for their children. Families receive several new, unopened toys for their children, books, clothing, games, and food that gets delivered to the family just before Christmas.

Families are invited to come to a Christmas party, where the children play and participate in fun holiday activities while the parents “shop” for Christmas gifts. Guests are served a delicious meal, provided with entertainment, and given a gift bag with warm clothes, hats, scarves, gloves in. 

Prison Fellowship offers free Christmas presents to low-income children of Muscogee County who have at least one parent incarcerated in a Georgia area prison through their Angel Tree Christmas program. The goal is to try to strengthen the bounds between the incarnated parent and the children through the beauty of the holiday. 

Each eligible child receives new, unopened gifts purchased and delivered by volunteers in the name of their incarcerated parent. Additionally, volunteers offer words of encouragement and prayer to help brighten the holidays for the entire family.

Salvation Army offers their Angel Tree program for low-income families in need during the holidays. They offer both the Angel Tree program and the Adopt-A-Family program, which offers both parents and their children free Christmas presents purchased by community members and organizations.

Toys For Tots in Columbus, invites low-income families with children aged newborn to 14 years old to apply for their toy giveaway program. This program gives children free Christmas toys, such as educational toys, games, books, and even bicycles to families who cannot afford to buy a present during the holidays. 

The registration for families in Muscogee County start in October and end in November, but they take donations for toys all the way up to December 23rd. During the 2021 Christmas season, 9,274 toys were distributed to 4,637 children. If you have any questions, you can go to their contact website to contact them. 

Valley Rescue Mission offers Christmas toy baskets to over 1,500 low-income children living in Muscogee County and another 800 families receive holiday baskets full of food. This year, they are asking for more food donations than toy donations this year because of the economic hardship many families are going through because of inflate. 

Families can register on the website to receive a toy or food basket this year.

Warm At Heart Outreach and Referral invites disadvantaged Muscogee County families, the homeless, sick, and the shut-in to apply for their services during their time of need. They offer several programs such as furniture assistance, free bags of groceries, shelter, and referral services.

Free Food in Muscogee County, Georgia

St. Thomas Episcopal Church offers their food pantry, as well as utility assistance to low-income families in Muscogee County. During the holidays, they also provide Christmas and Thanksgiving boxes for families. Christmas boxes are usually handed out in the middle of December. They also provide help throughout other times of the year.

The Salvation army offers free holiday dinner boxes filled with all the ingredients needed for a traditional holiday meal and hot holiday dinners open to the public, served in-house on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Newton County

Whitfield County (Dalton)

When we first started this series, we processed requests by city. This quickly became unsustainable, so now we do the research by county. However, some of our older articles haven’t been updated to the new system yet.
