While these programs are great for low-income residents who need help with civil cases, those with criminal cases might be able to get the help they need through the public defender’s office.

The Volunteer Lawyers for Justice are bar-certified attorneys who volunteer their time to help people who are low-income in New Jersey get the representation they need. You might be able to qualify if you meet income and other guidelines the organization has in place.

The American Indian Law Alliance might be able to help if you’re in New Jersey and qualify for their services. They help American Indians get assistance with a variety of legal issues and might even be able to help with attorney representation in some cases. The Safe House NJ is intended for victims of domestic violence. In addition to their shelter services and emergency care services, they offer legal aid in NJ. The Seton Hall University’s Law School offers a legal clinic for people who are in need of help with a variety of legal issues. The law school might be able to help people who are struggling with a variety of issues. You do not have to meet income requirements and you do not have to pay for the clinic, but you should reserve a seat early as spaces can fill up fast.
