Make money with your smartphone! With the right money making apps, you can earn cash by taking surveys, watching videos, shopping, and so much more! Since we all love free money, we’ve built a comprehensive list of all the legitimate money-making apps we could find.

For convenience, I’ve divided the list by type and then arranged the apps alphabetically.

Ad-based

These companies make their money by showing you ads. Install their apps and you can share in their profits.

Fronto

Like ScreenPay and Slidejoy, Fronto replaces your phone’s lock screen with an advertisement. The Fronto ad might be a product, article or survey. If you follow the link, you’ll earn Fronto points. According to Forbes, it takes approximately 2500 points to make $1. Fronto is available on Android.

ScreenPay

Earn $3 per month just by having the ScreenPay app installed! The app changes your phone’s lock screen to show advertisements. You don’t have to click on any ads to get paid! You’ll earn an extra $1 just by signing up. ScreenPay is only available on Android.

Slidejoy

Users typically add $5 to $15 per month to their budget with Slidejoy. This app sets your phone’s lock screen to an advertisement. Whether or not you engage with the ad, you’ll earn money every time you unlock your phone! This app is currently available on Android.

Photography

Put your smartphone camera to work and earn some money with these photography-selling apps.

Foap

Sell your photography for $5 per license through the Foap app. That may not sound like much, but it could add up quickly since there’s no limit to how many licenses can be purchased for each photo! It’s as easy to upload to Foap as it is to Facebook or other social media profiles. Funds are transferred directly to your bank account. Foap is available on Android and iOS.

MiPic

Buyers can order your photography on a variety of products, such as T-shirts, phone cases and more through MiPic. You can use the iOS app to uplaod photos or, if you’re an Android user, you’ll have to use the MiPic website. As the photographer, you’ll get 20% of the sale price of the item via Paypal.

Snapwire

Photographers begin by submitting images to challenges to earn enough points to level up. Once you’ve passed this stage, you’re able to respond to client requests and to take commissions from clients. You’ll keep 70% of your earnings through the Snapwire marketplace. It’s available on Android and iOS.

Rebates & Shopping

Love to shop? Put some money back in your pocket with these great rebate and shopping apps.

Coupons.com

The worst part of using grocery coupons is having to print them out, right? Skip that headache with the Coupons app! The app gives you access to hundreds of paperless coupons, lets you store all your loyalty cards in one place and can help you organize your coupons before you leave (or while you’re shopping). It’s available on Android and iOS. 

Ebates

Get cash back when you shop at over 2,000 stores! Sign up now and you’ll receive either a $10 Walmart gift card or a $10 Ebates Cash bonus as a welcome bonus. Over $325,000,000 has been paid to users since 1998. All you have to do is start your online shopping through the Ebates portal.

Scan your product bar codes and receipts to receive refunds through Ibotta. Rebates are limited to daily offers, which are unlocked by completing a basic task (like answering a question). Mobisave

Mobisave is another refund program. When you scan any itemized receipt, you can receive any applicable rebates via PayPal within 24 hours. There is no minimum payout. Learn more at Mobisave.com or download the app on Android or iOS now!

National Consumer Panel

Become a panelist for the National Consumer Panel (NCP) and use their mobile apps to scan your purchases. You can get their app on Android and iOS devices. Learn more about the NCP program here!

Receipt Hog

No matter what you shop or buy, you can scan your receipts into the Receipt Hog app to earn cash and other rewards. Click here to learn more about the program or install the app directly to Android or iOS.

Shopkick

Earn points by walking into stores, scanning product bar codes and making purchases. Just walking into a store will get you around 100 ‘kicks,’ or points. Scanning items will get you 20-50 kicks. Purchases will earn you even more. When you have enough kicks, you can exchange them for a gift card. This app is available on iOS.

Walmart Saving Catcher

Shop at Walmart often? Use the Walmart Savings Catcher to get money back on your receipts! Just scan the QR code on the receipt. If the Savings Catcher finds that a competitor has a better price on an item you bought, you’ll get the difference on an eGift Card. You can use the website or download the app on Android or iOS.

Statistics & Data

There are many companies who are eager to pay you for access to your mobile usage statistics. If you don’t mind sharing your data, you can get paid just for having these apps installed.

MobileExpressions

MobileExpressions offers rewards after the app has been installed for just one week! the app collects and aggregates statistical data about mobile web usage. It tracks where you go online, what videos you stream, what links you follow and how long you spend using certain apps. It does not collect your personal information, such as the content of text messages or emails. You can learn more about MobileExpressions on their website. It’s available on Android and iOS.

Nielsen Mobile Panel

Neilsen has two mobile panels. One is for customers who are 45 years of age or older. The other is for iPhone users. If you qualify, Nielsen will pay you $50 per year to keep an app on your phone that allows them to collect anonymous data from you. This data will be used to create market statistics. The app is available on Android or iOS, but you must begin by applying here.

Savvy Connect

You can earn up to $180 per year with SavvyConnect. Once installed, the application collects anonymous data as you browse the web. You’ll earn $5 per device for every month that the app remains installed. Just enter your email address on the SavvyConnect website to get started!

Smart Panel

Verto Analytics will pay you to download their new app, Smart Panel. In exchange, the app gathers anonymous statistics about your phone usage (such as time spent on Facebook, etc.) that will be used to help businesses provide better services and features. You’ll earn $5 for qualifying and $5 for every month the app remains installed on your device. Loyalty bonuses are awarded every three months! Money is paid via Paypal or Amazon gift card. To get Smart Panel, you must complete the qualification questionnaire at VertoSmart.com.

Viggle

Viggle wants to know what entertains you. If you’re going to listen to music or watch some shows, open the Viggle app first! Viggle wants to know what you’re watching and listening to. This app identifies what’s playing and provides you with points for every song or show you watch. Redeem your points for gift cards and more!

The Viggle app is available on Android and iOS – and DirecTV customers can get 4,000 bonus points just for signing up and entering the promotional code “DIRECTV.”

Surveys & Videos

Earn money by answering questions and watching videos! It doesn’t get much easier than that. 

App Trailers

Earn money by watching 30 second app trailers or engaging with certain apps. You can cash out your earnings via gift cards or Paypal. Get App trailers on Android or iOS.

Inbox Dollars

Take surveys, browse the Internet and play games for money. Once you’ve acquired $30, you can request a payout. Your money will be sent via check within two weeks. The Penny Hoarder claims that you can earn up to $225/month with this service.

iPoll

Complete surveys for cash. Surveys average 15-20 minutes and pay $1-$10 each, according to an article by Huffington Post. Once you reach $35, you can request a payout. iPoll is available on Android and iOS.

Surveys on the Go

Earn $0.25 to $5 per survey! Surveys cover various topics, including business, politics, entertainment, news, sports, media and technology. Once you reach $10, you can request a PayPal transfer! Sign up now – it’s available on iOS and Android!

Swagbucks

Earning Swagbucks is as easy as watching videos, playing games, completing surveys, searching the web, signing up for free trials and shopping at certain retailers. The Penny Hoarder claims to earn $100-$200 per year just by conducting searches through Swagbucks. Once you’ve acquired enough points, you can redeem your Swagbucks for gift cards or sweepstakes entries!

Bookscouter

Never going to read that book again? Sell it to Bookscouter! This app allows you to scan or enter the ISBN of your book and connect you with sites looking to buy it. It compares the prices for you so that you can find the best price. Bookscouter is available on Android and iOS.

Door Dash

Door Dash is a door-to-door delivery service that brings restaurant meals right to your home (or picnic or wherever you are). Dashers must be at least 18 years old, have a relatively clean driving record and pass a background check. Once you’re approved, you can use the app to accept and fill orders. The app is available in Android and iOS. Sign up online here.

As of this writing, Dashers are being hired in Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Orange County, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose/Silicon Valley, SF East Bay, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington DC, San Antonio and Nashville.

Easy Shift

Easy Shift is a task-based app like Field Agent, Gigwalk and Rewardable. Complete basic tasks at local stores (such as checking prices or photographing storefronts) and earn cash rewards! As you complete assignments, more higher-paying assignments will be made available. Payments are sent via PayPal within 48 hours. Available on Android and iOS!

Field Agent

Be a field agent for companies and businesses! The Field Agent app provides a list of needed tasks that you can complete for cash. These jobs require you to go to local areas and gather information, such as product prices or photos of certain displays.  Jobs pay between $3 and $12 each and are paid via PayPal or Dwolla. Field Agent is available on Android and iOS.

Gigwalk

Gigwalk is a lot like Field Agent. Their website indicates that gigs pay between $3 and $100 each. They can take anywhere between 5 minutes and a few hours to complete. Payments are processed via PayPal. Gigwalk is available on Android and iOS.

Mobee

Mystery shoppers get paid thousands of dollars through the Mobee app. The app will show you which stores in your area are currently looking for secret shoppers. As you complete the mission, you’ll be asked a series of questions that will help you earn cash and prizes. Mobee is available on Android and iOS!

Raise

Raise is a gift card marketplace where you can sell gift cards for cash or purchase discounted gift cards that others are selling. You can set your own selling price for your gift cards. The app is available on iOS and Android.

Rewardable

Like Gigwalker and Field Agent, Rewardable offers cash in exchange for quick tasks like checking inventory at local stores. It pays directly to PayPal. You can get Rewardable on Android and iOS!

TaskRabbit

Got a skill? List it on TaskRabbit and state your hourly rate. Current TaskRabbit skills include running errands, building IKEA furniture, gift wrapping, organizing and more. Once your skills are listed, clients who need those services can hire you. Easy! Find TaskRabbit on Android and iOS.

College Students Only

PocketPoints

PocketPoints seeks to cure screen addiction on campus by literally paying students to stay off their phones while they are in class! The concept is simple. Check in when you’re on campus, lock your device and you’ll earn points for every minute that you stay off your phone and remain in class!
