Operation Help A Hero offers their services to active duty military members who have children or are expecting a child. Their program, Operation Help A Hero, provides gifts for their children, grocery and gas cards, gift certificates, and more to bridge the gap during a difficult time. Active duty military members who suffered from a service related medical separation within the past 12 months, also qualify for this program.

Presbyterian Urban Ministries offers a hand up to those in need living in San Diego, California. They offer a toy program where low-income families in need can sign their child up for free toys (through Toys for Tots) and a back pack filled with school supplies. In addition, they offer a free clothing store where the homeless can visit each month and others in need can visit every three months and a grocery program where families can receive a quarterly bag of groceries and free snack bags every week.

Rock Church San Diego offers the Angel Tree program for low-income families and children who have at least one parent in incarceration.

Salvation Army offers several services to low-income families in need throughout San Diego. They offer the Angel Tree program where families in need get paired with community members who want to make their Christmas bright again. Community members will buy their families in need clothing, toys, games, gift certificates, and more and distribute them just before Christmas. They also offer emergency food services in the form of free bags of groceries, holiday dinner boxes filled with turkey and all the fixings, and a free soup kitchen that provides warm meals every day. To take part in their services, families must provide a valid form of identification, birth certificates and social security cards for all members of the household, provide a list of income and expenses, and have children under the age of 16 living in their household.

Toys For Joy partners with local schools and businesses to bring you the Toys for Joy event. At the event, children will receive a toy and their families will receive food.

Toys For Tots provides toy donation boxes all across San Diego and holds annual Toy Drives to help low-income families during the holiday season. Using these boxes and toy drives allows them to collect new, unopened toys from community members and distribute them to less fortunate families in the area. Toys get delivered to families one week before Christmas and are only available for children aged newborn to Families must register their children by using the request toys link on their website, provide a valid form of identification, proof of residency, and meet the income guidelines for their household size.

Trees For Troops is a program offered through the Christmas Spirit Foundation that provides farm grown Christmas trees to the United States Armed Forces. This program offers their services to all branches of the military that are active and non-active.

Lemon Grove Lutheran Church  provides free food twice a month. And, at our “Soup’s On!” dinner they serve a hot meal to 100+ individuals . A food pantry is open four days a week.

San Diego Food Bank offers a variety of programs to help with food. Including: neighborhood distribution, emergency food services, senior food program, college hunger relief program and many more!

The Church of the Nazarene at Mid-City receives food donations from local businesses and area food banks that allow them to offer low-income families free food throughout the month.
