Here at Low Income Relief, we know firsthand how frustrating it is when you can’t provide your kiddos with a huge holiday celebration. Sometimes, financial stress can make the holidays downright stressful and depressing.

No matter where you’re located in this state, there are some agencies that can help you. These agencies may have local branches but they are present throughout the state.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is one of the most helpful resources we’ve found for Christmas assistance. They provide holiday meals, toys and clothing to low income families. They also have a specific ministry for the families of prisoners. Please visit their website to look for your local Salvation Army chapter. Don’t delay – some of these agencies start registering as early as October.

Toys for Tots

The Marine’s Toys for Tots campaign serves most of the United States. When you visit their official website, you’ll be prompted to enter your state and select your local area. They register early and fill up fast, so don’t hesitate!

San Bernadino County

San Diego (City and County)

Whether you live in the city or county of San Diego County, we’ve found resources that can help! In addition to help with free Christmas gifts and food, some of these agencies also assist with clothing, diapers, car seats, gas cards, and Christmas trees! San Fernando Valley

The San Fernando Valley includes portions of the city of Los Angeles, as well as Burbank, Glendale, Hidden Hills, Calabasas, San Fernando and Universal City. This area has many resources for low income families who need help with free Christmas gifts and food!

Free Christmas Toys and Gifts in San Fernando County, CA

Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Winter Wonderland hosts a Winter Wonderland event in the Sears parking lot. They are partnering with Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and the City of Los Angeles to bring joy to families throughout the area. All residents of San Fernando County can attend the event and will enjoy sledding, s’mores, gifts from Santa, snow play, entertainment, giveaways, and more.

Harbor InterFaith Services Inc. offers free holiday assistance to low-income families living in San Fernando Valley, Torrence, and Harbor City. Their holiday help comes in the form of holiday food baskets that contain food, toys, and clothing. More over, they also provide hot meals and free emergency bags of groceries on an as needed basis.

Family Rescue Center provides toys, clothes, electronic devices, and gift cards for children from ages 3 to 17. This Christmas Toy Drive serves about 600 children every year with generous donations from both companies and local individual.

Hope Chapel Hawthorne offers toys to all children present at their events throughout the Christmas season. Even on Christmas Day, toys are provided to all children who are present at the service.  If you have any questions, or want to stay up to date on what is going on in the ministry, you can follow their Hope Chapel Hawthorne Facebook page.

MEND Poverty helps low income families registered in their program with Christmas assistance. With this assistance your children are provided with toys and other gifts, like blankets, hats, gloves, and board games. Assistance depends on availability, but thousands of food boxes are given out each year, and just last year, 800 board games were given to families. The event is festive with music and holiday decorations. .

Salvation Army has a food pantry available for low-income residents in need of free groceries or holiday meal boxes. They also host the Angel Tree program that provides children of low-income families with toys, clothes, games, and more. More so, residents will also have access to the area soup kitchen that provides special holiday meals every Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. For more information about their services, please contact the Salvation Army in your area.

San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission hosts their Holiday Store: Love in Action event during the holiday season. They provide current and former SFVRM parents to “shop” for gifts to give to their children on Christmas morning. Children ages 6 months to 16 years old receive gifts like toys, and gift cards.

Toys For Tots places donation boxes at participating businesses all across California, including San Fernando Valley. These toys are then collected and distributed to the children on their registry list before Christmas arrives. Low-income parents can register their child for free by clicking “request toys” on their website. Qualification requirements based off of family size and monthly income and they only offer their services to children aged newborn to 12 years old.

Free Christmas Food in San Fernando County, CA

Hope Chapel Hawthorne offers a meal on Christmas day to families who attend the Christmas Day service. If you have any questions, or want to stay up to date on what is going on in the ministry, you can follow their Hope Chapel Hawthorne Facebook page. 

Harbor InterFaith Services Inc. offers free holiday assistance to low-income families living in San Fernando Valley, Torrence, and Harbor City. Their holiday help comes in the form of holiday food baskets that contain food, toys, and clothing. More over, they also provide hot meals and free emergency bags of groceries and personal care items on an as needed basis.

They provide over 700 holiday meals to families in need during Christmas time, as well as gifts and toys for anyone in need as long as they qualify for the program. 

MEND Poverty helps low income families registered in their program with Christmas assistance. With this assistance you can get gifts with a variety of holiday food items that can help you create a tasty Christmas dinner for your family. Assistance depends on availability. They also have a program called A Seat at the Table where they provided a festive, holiday meal for people without shelter and a Christmas brunch for their low-income seniors in the area.

San Francisco County

San Francisco County features many agencies that will assist low income residents with their holiday needs. In addition to holiday needs, some of the agencies on this list also provide school supplies, clothing, shoes, transit passes, gift cards, books and more. hi my name is Jennifer I live in Riverside county Beaumont California and I'm in a motor home with my fiance my dog or out on a piece of property 19 acres there's no power to this property no water will usually do fine and can take care of it cuz we work but our boss decided that he's going to Mexico for Christmas at the last minute and so now there's no work we weren't able to prepare for this cuz we didn't have no notice we have no power we do have a generator no gas there is a propane heater at Walmart for $38 I would so love to have it cuz we have no heating and we absolutely have no food no food at all it's Christmas day and it's short notice but if anybody can help with anything oh my God so need food and stuff and something to be warm my deepest and most humble gratitude to anybody that can help me I do have a PayPal account or if anybody could bring anything here oh God we don't care we don't care just please I know it's Christmas day but we didn't expect this either can somebody please help us please if you find it in your heart you can do that please thank you Merry Christmas and God bless everyone
