Free Christmas trees are distributed in Tonawanda every year by former Erie County Legislator Chuck Swanick. The annual event is typically held on Christmas Eve and include trees that haven’t sold. Follow WKBW for updates about the giveaway.


Heart Love and Soul Food Pantry provides holiday toys and gifts to low income families as part of the WNY Holiday Partnership. They also provide food to families in need and summer programs for children between 6 and 13 years of age. Call 211 or (888) 696-9211 for holiday assistance information.

Niagara Community Action Program provides many services to the local community. They participate in the WNY Holiday Partnership, which provides free Christmas gifts and toys to low income families. They also provide food, clothing, rent/mortgage assistance, housing location services, landlord/tenant advocacy, individual advocacy, budget counseling, baby needs assistance and Fair Housing Advocacy Program assistance. North Tonawanda Club (Boys and Girls Clubs) provide help for boys and girls in Erie and Niagara Counties. Their holiday program serves children 12 and under whose families are food stamps eligible. To apply, bring the following:

  • Proof of household income for the last 30 days (including Food Stamps Budget Sheet)
  • ID for all household member (including verification of children’s ages)
  • Social Security Numbers for everyone in the household (ages 1+)
  • Photo ID for the applicant
  • Proof of current address

In addition to their Christmas program, the North Tonawanda Club provides clubs, career counseling, computer and technology classes, day camps, drug use disorder education/prevention programs, youth employment programs, homework help programs, youth job development and support groups.

Salvation Army (Niagara Falls Corps) provide free Christmas gifts and toys to low income families through the WNY Holiday Partnership. They also provide energy assistance, rental assistance, food pantry, counseling services, material assistance and religious services to the community.

St. John de LaSalle Community Care offers a food pantry that provides delivery to homebound and senior clients. They also participate in the WNY Holiday Partnership, which provides free Christmas gifts and toys to low income families.
