If you’ve got a card to the New York Public Library, you can get free music, movies, ebook sand more! Don’t miss out on these great discounts available to NYPL cardholders! With more than 92 locations and a plethora of online resources, there’s no reason any New York resident should be without a NYPL card.

In addition to over 6 million items and collections, the New York Public Library also offers a series of e-books, audiobooks and subscription services to its customers. At the Bronx Library Center and Mid-Manhattan Library, you can also sign up for a FREE municipal ID that provides a FREE membership to over 30 cultural institutions and discounts to other places as well.

SimplyE is a service with over 300,000 e-books that is offered as a service by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.  In fact, the NYPL website boasts that they have more than 300,000 electronic, downloadable items available for their patrons! From children’s books to bestsellers, you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for here – and you don’t even have to leave your house!

You can also download e-books and audiobooks from Overdrive, Cloud Library, Audio Book Cloud, BARD (Braille & Audio recording Download), Bookshare, TumbeBooks, Tumblebook CloudTumbleBook Cloud Jr, Bookflix, Very Short Introductions, University Press Scholarship Online (UPSO), Project Muse, Sage Knowledge, the NYPL Digital Collections and Hathi Trust. 

Learn new skills for free!

The library also offers a lot of helpful, free programming for New York residents. For example, you can take advantage of their Money Matters courses that will help you budget better, save more money and avoid (or escape) financial crises. Immigrants can participate in the Immigrant Services program that provides free English language classes and more essential services.

At the Science, Industry and Business Library, small business owners can receive free, in-depth business counseling through the SCORE program that will help them start a business, secure funding, write a business plan, use the Internet and so much more. These one-on-one services are available in-person only.

The library offers special disability services.

Disabled residents of New York City and Long Island may be able to participate in a special books by mail program. To qualify, you must be blind, visually impaired, have a reading disability (such as dyslexia) or a physical disability that limits your ability to hold a book or turn pages. This program will mail you audio books or braille books postage free! You will need to apply and prove the disability. Click here for more information. 

All home-bound residents of the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island areas can qualify to receive books by mail.
