7 Ways to Get Grocery Delivery with EBT

7 Ways to Get Grocery Delivery with EBT

We’ve found stores with grocery delivery that accepts EBT! If you need to order your groceries online for delivery, I highly recommend checking out these retailers.

There are 3 things you need to know before you order.

Even when you’ve found a place with grocery delivery that accepts EBT, there are three things that you need to know before you order.

First, your food stamps funds cannot be used to pay for the delivery fee, tip or other charges. It can only be used to pay for the eligible groceries themselves. You’ll need a secondary payment method to cover the delivery fee and tip.

Second, you’ll save money if you place one large order instead of several smaller ones. Because you have to pay a delivery fee and tip for each order, it’s best to plan ahead and make sure that you don’t miss anything. Grocery lists and meal plans can make a big difference!

Third, you may get better deals in the store. When you order online, you may miss out on great ways to save money (like discount bakery items, sale prices, loyalty card pricing and other offers that aren’t available online).

That being said, it’s overall a great thing that there are stores with grocery delivery that accepts EBT. Obviously, it’s a tremendous blessing for people who are homebound… but it’s also a great option when you are sick and don’t want to spread your germs.

Instacart accepts food stamps!

Instacart is the go-to service for easy and effective grocery delivery. I personally use it all the time. Last week, when my husband was sick, I ordered seven Instacart orders in seven days. It’s seriously a lifesaver.

A representative reached out to me last week to let me know that Instacart is now accepting food stamps for certain orders! If you’re looking for grocery delivery with EBT, you can order from over 4,000 stores in 38 states with Instacart. I highly recommend it.

And, for a limited time only, Instacart is offering free delivery and pickup for your first three orders!

On Instacart, you’ll find many places with grocery delivery that accepts EBT, including:

  • Aldi
  • Food Lion
  • FoodMaxx
  • Hannaford
  • Piggly Wiggly
  • Price Chopper
  • Publix

In some states, users can order online with EBT but will need to pick up their groceries. Delivery is not available for online EBT purchases in these states:

  • Arkansas
  • Alaska
  • Louisiana
  • Maine
  • Montana

If your store allows this, you’ll see the option to add an EBT card to your account when you checkout. You may need to wait 24 hours for validation before you can place your order with no basket minimums.

Of course, you can use your EBT card to purchase groceries inside Walmart in all states.

I know this article was posted a while ago but just fyi for anyone looking into this now, as I am, I joined Instacart and added my EBT card and did the free trial, but it didn't completely waive the service fee, just reduced it; I got one "free delivery" for the first order, and it offers "free delivery" for my next 3 orders over $35. However, they still aren't free because there are service fees. Then they want you to add a tip which I simply could not afford. THEN they put a $10 hold on my debit card for 2 days. I only had $18 and they said the hold could be up to 7 or 10 days. I'm lucky it was only 2 days. On top of that, they didn't deliver all my items and I couldn't afford to put in another order.

I loved the Walmart delivery best out of these options, when I could afford the $14/month subscription because you can order anything, even just a loaf of bread, and get free delivery. 2 orders a month and the subscription pays for itself. But right now I don't have an income.

If you do Amazon Fresh, even if you have Prime, you only get free delivery on orders over $35, which is okay but sucks if you forget an item or it's the end of the month and you don't have $35 on your card. You do at least get Prime half-off if you're on government assistance. But Instacart? Worst online shopping experience of my life. Like, I was in tears over it. But I wouldn't even have known I could use it if it wasn't for this article, so...thanks. I think.

Yeah InstaCart has a $21 Service Fee to cover their app costs and background checks. ๐Ÿ™„

Wednesday 9th of March 2022

Wow a background check? What's the reason? If you have a EBT the state knows your information of your background check. That's redic of a 21 dollar fee might as well take a cab to and from if that's the case ! Just my opinion.

@Stephanie Alice Wright,

Maybe the state offers transportation of some sort? I'd look into that if possible. Call your local office? Just stumbled on here hopefully everyone's healthy and safe. Maybe there's more help than we know of. It's worth a try.
