Rent Audio Visual Equipment

As a library card holder, you’re able to rent audio-visual equipment for free. Any library card holder over the age of 18 can rent audio-visual equipment by filling out the AV registration form. By filling out this form, card holders gain access to film projectors, screens, and more, as long as you do not have any outstanding fines. You can reserve the audio-visual equipment you want to rent by calling the library or by visiting in person at the reference desk. You can rent all audio-visual equipment up to 6 weeks at a time.

The New Bern Library offers all library card holders to use their vast online resources for free. These resources range from getting help from a trusted librarian to learning a new language, all in the comfort of your own home.

Each book club kit’s checked out for 6 weeks through the reference desk or over the phone.

You can use your New Bern Library card to learn new skills and familiarize yourself with everyday applications by taking advantage of the many free computer classes they offer. These classes range from navigating social media to learning computer basics. Most classes last one to two hours on specific days and classes range from one to two days in duration.

Facebook 101teaches you how to send friend requests and like pages, even if you don’t have a Facebook account. This class also teaches you how to create pages and discuss security issues.

Microsoft Excelshows you how to format data and use different screen elements with ease.

Yahoo Mailshows you how to create an email account with Yahoo and how to use it once it’s created.

Microsoft Word 2007teaches you different formatting techniques, how to copy and paste, and using tabs. Additionally, you’ll learn how and when to use margins and indentations.

Ebay Basicsclass teaches you how to buy and sell on eBay, using Paypal, and how to leave feedback. You will also learn about eBay security issues.

Intro to The Library Online Catalogclass shows you how to use the online catalog to find library materials and how to reserve or renew them.

Internet Beginning and Intermediateteaches you how to use your computer mouse, search the internet, email basics, and an intro into the libraries online catalog. For intermediate users topics will vary and cover a wider range of topics than beginning users.

Free Weekly Children’s Program in The Mini Theater at New Bern Library

At New Bern-Craven County Library, your library card gives you access to weekly programs in their mini theater, teaching your children new skills in fun and exciting ways. In the Mini Theater, children starting at age 18 months to 18 years sing songs, read stories, and watch puppet shows. Older children will learn creative dramatics, puppetry skills, and story telling techniques. Classes take place on different days depending on your child’s age and range from 20 minutes to an hour.
