You can try these New York state home improvement grants!

If you’re in a rural area, you could get New York state home improvement grants from the USDA. The grants are available in amounts of up to $7,500. You must live in an area deemed rural by the agency. You must also meet other requirements they have in place including requirements for the type of repairs.

Habitat for Humanity might be able to help you make upgrades to your home. The program works with low-income families who are willing to put work in but who may not have the money they need to pay for the repairs. You must meet certain requirements and you must go through the waiting list process.

New York state offers referrals and products to help make unsafe homes healthier. You may qualify for these programs if there is something unsafe in your home, if your home is unhealthy or other factors that could contribute to a subpar living environment. People who apply for this program must meet certain income guidelines.

If you’re 60 or older and you need a repair that is not more than $5,000 to make your home safer and better, you may qualify for help. The program works with seniors who are low-income and have repairs they need done to make their home safer.

Homes that are not energy efficient may qualify for help through the Power Naturally program. You can get free New York state home improvement grants that will help you upgrade your home to make it more energy efficient.

The New York weatherization program could also help you if your home is not energy efficient. The upgrades can include things like insulation and even flooring to make your home better!

In addition to home loans and repair grants, the USDA offers repair loans. You might be able to qualify for up to $20,000 toward your home repairs. This amount can be used for various repairs, but they must meet the USDA guidelines. You must also live in a rural area to qualify.

Veterans could get help with home improvement loans. These loans come with lower interest rates and benefits that come with the VA guarantee.

Basic STAR recipients in New York state could get help with property tax relief. You must meet certain requirements and provide information on your income to apply for the program. There are limits to the amount you can qualify for relief with.

Enhanced STAR recipients may also qualify for property tax relief in New York. The enhanced recipients may qualify for more help through the state and may have higher limits they are exempt from.

Property tax relief help is available in New York City.

If you’re a senior citizen in NYC, you can qualify for property tax relief. The amount varies based on your income, your home value and the area of the city you’re in. You must apply for the program through the tax office.

Disabled individuals may also be able to qualify for property tax relief. You must live in a home that is between one and three families to get help with property tax relief. The amount you qualify for an exemption for is based on your income.

Veterans may also qualify for property tax relief. You can get between 15% and 50% of your total property value exempt. You must live in a one to three family home to qualify for the program.

If you’re a member of a clergy and your home is not a part of a co-op, you could get up to $1,500 for a property tax exemption. The amount is what your property value is reduced by.

Crime victims might qualify for property tax relief. You must meet very specific requirements and you must be willing to submit documentation proving your crime victim status to qualify.

You could get foreclosure relief in New York.

The HOPE NOW program could help you get foreclosure relief. The program might also help you save money on fixing your credit to ensure you are able to pay your bills in the future.

The Center for New York City Neighborhoods (CNYCN) might be able to help you get credit counseling and other options that could help you get foreclosure relief. The program may also work with individuals and families to get caught up on your mortgage payment and save money.

If you need help, but you don’t know where to turn, you might be able to get pro bono legal help! Contact the New York State Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Program to find out about getting a lawyer to help you with foreclosure relief for free.

Veterans might be able to lower their mortgage payment to make it easier for them to pay. You can apply for the interest rate reduction program to find out if you qualify for a lower mortgage payment!

Brooklyn

The NHS of Bedford Stuyvesant might be able to help you with New York State home improvement grants. These could help you pay for things in your home to fix it up and make it safer.

The Neighborhood Housing Services of Brooklyn helps families who qualify for their housing repair programs in Brooklyn. You must visit the NHS in Brooklyn NHS to apply and qualify for the program.

The Neighbors Helping Neighbors may be able to connect you with other Brooklyn residents or resources provided by others in your neighborhood to fix your home. Help could range from a grant to help you pay for repairs to repair materials even to repairs done by local professionals donating their time!

Long Island

The Community Development Corporation of Long Island in Centereach might be able to help you with New York state home improvement grants for repairs to your home. You must apply for and qualify for the program through the CDC. You’ll be required to provide proof of income and proof of need to qualify for it.

The Margert Community Corporation offers home repair help in Far Rockaway to families who qualify. You must meet certain guidelines and must fall below a certain income level to get qualified for the program. Approvals are based on how many funds are available at the time.

Long Island Housing Partnership might be able to help Hauppauge residents struggling to get help with their repairs. You could qualify for New York state home improvement grants from the partnership or you might be able to get a low-interest rate loan.

If you live in Patchogue, you might be able to get help from the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk. The council does not directly provide assistance for people who need help with repairs but they might be able to refer you to resources that could help you.

Rural Ulster Preservation works with both Kingston and Monticello residents. The organization might be able to provide preservation assistance to people struggling to make their home better and safer.

Manhattan

Manhattan’s Neighborhood Housing Services might be able to help you make upgrades to your home through New York state home improvement grants. You could get help with up to $1,500 in grants to make upgrades to your home.

New York Mortgage Coalition may be able to provide foreclosure relief if you’re struggling to make payments on your mortgage. The foreclosure relief options could help you get caught up and could help you avoid being in a similar position in the future.

Credit Where Credit Is Due is a credit counseling agency that provides assistance to families that are struggling with credit issues or who might be facing foreclosure. You can learn about how your credit can affect all areas of your life and how fixing it could help you. The agency also provides individuals with information on exactly how to fix their credit.

Asian Americans for Equality have some resources to help Asian Americans living in Manhattan. If you are an Asian American and you need to upgrade your home to make it safer or to make your living situation better, you might qualify for a grant from the organization.

Queens

Neighborhood Housing Services could help you with a low-income grant up to $5,000 toward home upgrades. The organization requires you to meet certain guidelines and you must be under a certain income level to get assistance. For NHS in:

The Affordable Housing Partnership in Albany not only works with people to help them get into their own home but they may also be able to help you connect with resources to make upgrades to your home. You must apply through the AHP to get assistance.


The Albany County Rural Housing Alliance offers help to some residents in Voorheesville. You must provide information on your income and other factors to qualify for assistance. The program can help pay for a portion of repairs if you qualify.

Cayuga County

The Cayuga County Homesite Development Corporation might be able to help people in the county. If you need help with your home repairs and if they qualify for assistance toward neighborhood beautification efforts, the development corporation might pay for a portion of them.

Chemung County

The Tri-County Housing Council in Big Flats provides some assistance to low-income residents struggling to pay for repairs to their home. They offer community block grants to residents to make necessary repairs to make their homes safer. If you are interested in it, you must apply through the council.

Chenango County

Using the Opportunities For Chenango agency, you might be able to get help upgrading your home. The program works with those who are low-income and those struggling to make their homes better. If you want to make your home look better and make it safer, you could qualify for a community block grant.

Cortland County

The Cortland Housing Assistance Council provides some assistance to families in need of updates to their homes. If your home is unsafe or if it is unhealthy, you could even get emergency help from the council. You must meet income requirements to qualify for housing repair grants.

Delaware County

The Western Catskills Community Revitalization Council provides New York state home improvement grants and loans to help revitalize the community. Grants are generally capped at $2,000 while loans are capped at $10,000. You must apply for assistance by submitting information on your income, family size and the projects you plan to do with the grant or loan.

Erie County

The Buffalo Housing Corporation could help you save money on repairs. If you know which repairs you need to make and what you need to do to make those repairs to your home, you could qualify for New York state home improvement grants.

The Buffalo Urban League might be able to help you get assistance with New York state home improvement grants. You must apply for assistance through the urban league to get help making upgrades to your home.

West Side Neighborhood Housing Services works with Buffalo residents who might be struggling to upgrade their home. You can also get help with things like credit counseling and foreclosure relief if you apply for and qualify for their program.

Essex County

The Housing Assistance Program of Essex County provides housing assistance for new home buyers as well as homeowners who need to make updates to their home, but who might not have the means to do it. You can apply for assistance through the agency. New York state home improvement grants are available based on funding from community block grants.

Madison County

The Community Action Program for Madison County offers assistance for families struggling to update unsafe or unhealthy parts of their home. The loans you can get through the program are easier to qualify for and provide you with a lower interest rate than what you would pay with most grants.

Monroe County

The Bishop Sheen Ecumenical Housing Foundation mainly focuses on how they can help homeless individuals find homes and help people get qualified to own their own homes. You may also be able to qualify for assistance with housing repairs if your home is unsafe or unhealthy.

NeighborWorks Rochester helps residents connect with resources and professionals who might be able to help them fix their home. While they do not offer grants, you could get low-cost repair help from professionals in the community.

Niagara County

The Center City Neighborhood Development Corporation helps those living in Niagara Falls connect with assistance for housing updates. You can apply for this assistance through the agency to get help making your home better.

Oneida County

If you’re in Utica or anywhere in Oneida County, you might be able to qualify for help from UNHS NeighborWorks. The program provides access to resources and professionals in the area to help you make updates to your home. UNHS does not offer New York state home improvement grants, but their connections with local professionals could help you make updates to your home.

Onondaga County

Home HeadQuarters in Syracuse could help you upgrade your home and get assistance in making repairs. If you have an emergency repair, they could provide you with immediate assistance if you qualify and if the repair is less than $1,000.

Housing Visions Unlimited works with Syracuse residents who qualify to provide assistance with housing updates. You can get assistance by applying for the program and providing information on your income, family size and the repairs your home needs.

Ontario County

When you apply for assistance through Community Unified Today, you might be able to qualify for help making your home better. There are New York state home improvement grants available through the program that can help you with everything from making your home safer to upgrading it. You must meet income requirements to get help.

Schenectady County

Using help from Better Neighborhoods might allow you to upgrade your home in different ways. When you apply and are qualified for help from the agency, you can get assistance upgrading your home.

Tompkins County

Ithaca’s Neighborhood Housing Services provides New York state home improvement grants and low-interest loans to help you save money and get hep with your home upgrades. You must meet certain guidelines to qualify for the grants. There are also other guidelines that might be less stringent for help with a loan from the organization.

Wayne County

Community Action In Self Help helps some Wayne County residents with home upgrades. If you are low-income and do not qualify for other loans from banks or traditional sources, you might be able to get one through CASH to upgrade your home.

Westchester County

Residents of both White Plains and Yonkers might qualify for help through Westchester Residential Opportunities. In addition to helping residents with mortgages, they also offer some help with home improvement loans. The program could help you save money by providing you with a lower-than-average-interest rate loan.

Yates County

The Keuka Housing Council in Penn Yan might be able to help you connect with resources to upgrade your home. You could get New York state home improvement grants, materials at a lower cost and help from licensed professionals in the area.
