CWLP Customers Can Save Money!

If you’re a City, Water, Light and Power customer near the city of Springfield, Illinois, we’ve found ways that you can save money on your utilities!

Save money on your CWLP water service.

If you’re spending too much money on your water bills, CWLP has helpful programs that can reduce your bill.

Assess your water use with the Water Quiz.

You can use the WaterSense Online Quiz on the CWLP website to analyze your current water consumption. It will help you identify ways that your household can reduce its use.

Get a free Water Saver kit.

A free Water Saver kit is available to all CWLP residential customers. These devices are intended to be used on older, less efficient faucets and showers.

The kit includes a low-flow shower head, a low-flow kitchen aerator, a low-flow bathroom aerator, a toilet dam, a toilet bowl fill diverter and dye tablets to help detect leaks. If desired, CWLP also offers lather valves and flip valve swivel kitchen aerators.

If you decide to invest in other water-saving equipment, check out the rebate list!

Save money on your CWLP electric service.

The regular residential rate includes a $12.64 monthly customer charge and a certain amount per kilowatt hour of energy use. Rates are higher in the summer and winter months.

Get a Money-Back Home Energy Audit.

During a home energy audit, a qualified technician will visit your home to identify unwanted sources of heat loss. They will help you find the most cost-effective ways to fix the problems, so that you save money each month on your utility bill.

There is a $25 fee for this service, but the $25 is credited to your CWLP electric bill after the audit has been completed. If you follow the steps outlined in your audit, you can earn a full refund of the audit fee and another $25 in rebates! Details here.

Sign up for the Helping Homes Weatherization Assistance program.

This program provides eligible customers the chance to reduce their power costs by installing energy-saving products. This service is free to those who qualify!

The specific improvements that you will receive are determined during an energy audit and may include insulation, central air conditioning or heat pump replacement, caulking, weather-stripping, LED lighting upgrades, bathroom exhaust fan upgrades and more.

You must meet household income guidelines to qualify. As of this writing, a household of four can earn up to $61,100.

If you need help paying your CWLP bill, don’t despair. We’ve found assistance for you!

Payment arrangements are available for short-term hardships.

If you owe a past due balance, you may be able to enter a payment arrangement to help you catch up. The precise terms of the payment arrangements are determined on a case-by-case basis. Call customer service for details.

Level Payment Plan provides steady monthly bills.

If seasonal highs and lows mess up your budget, try the Level Payment Plan. This ensures that your monthly bills are always the same amount. If your Level Payment Plan doesn’t quite cover all of your energy use, the excess use will be rolled into your next years’ payment amount.

Senior discounts are available to residential customers.

If you are 62 years old or older, you may be eligible for a senior discount on your CWLP service. The service must be in your name and you must meet income guidelines. In 2019, the maximum qualifying income is $37,470 for one person or $50,730 for households with multiple people.

To apply, you will need to bring verfication of your age and income to the CWLP Customer Service Office.
