How to Get the Verizon Military Discount

How to Get the Verizon Military Discount

Verizon’s military discount can help active military and eligible veterans to save money on their cell phone bill! This discount doesn’t happen automatically, so it’s important that you understand what you need to do to apply for it. Otherwise, you’ll end up paying more than you have to!

In this article, we’ll review the Verizon military discount. We will provide information about what this discount is and how you can apply for it. As a current Verizon customer with a military discount, I’ll also let you know my honest opinion of this service.

What is the Verizon military discount?

Verizon has changed their plans drastically over the last few years. It seems like the company is constantly rolling out new plan structures and that can make it difficult to understand if you’re getting the best deal.

As a current Verizon customer, I’m thankful that the company will grandfather my plan. That means that if I don’t want to update to a new offer, I don’t have to. I still have my previous plan with the military discount and that seems to be fine with the company.

The current Verizon military discount offer will allow you to save up to $25 per month on myPlan. The amount of money you save will depend on how many lines are attached to your plan. A single line will receive a $10 discount. If you have two or three lines, you’ll get a $25 per month discount. If you have four or more lines, you’ll get a $20 discount.

You can also get a 15% discount on your monthly account access fee and 25% when you order certain accessories online.

Who qualifies for the Verizon military discount?

The Verizon military discount is available to active duty service members and veterans. You may qualify for the discount if you have served in any of the branches of the US military, including:

  • Air Force
  • Army
  • Coast Guard
  • Marines
  • Navy
  • National Guard
  • Space Force

Your rank and status doesn’t matter either. You can qualify for this discount whether you are a new recruit, cadet, a veteran or someone serving in the reserves.

Veterans can verify their eligibility with ID.me so that you don’t need to deal with gathering or submitting any paperwork directly to Verizon.

How do you get the Verizon military discount?

The Verizon military discount is not applied automatically. You have to request it, but you can do this online in just a few steps.

First, you need to make sure that you are registered with ID.me. This service will be familiar to most military and veterans, as you also need to use it to log into the VA website and other services. It is widely considered to be a very secure identification service.

Second, you’ll need to return to the Verizon website and complete your registration. You will need to log in with ID.me to verify that you meet the eligibility requirements for the Verizon military discount.

Third, you’ll receive an email from Verizon stating that they have received your completed registration. This email will include information about any next steps that you need to take.

Finally, you can claim a military discount for Verizon Fios service by logging in with ID.me to that service as well. There are three Fios plans available and it looks like the average savings is around $10-$15.

Is it worth it?

I am a current Verizon customer who receives the Verizon Military Discount. I am not affiliated with Verizon and I did not receive any compensation from their company for this review.

The reason I choose to use Verizon is because their coverage is the most comprehensive. I tend to live and travel through rural areas that other providers just don’t reach as well. My decision to use Verizon is based on my desire for consistent quality coverage, not a desire to save money on my monthly bill.

One thing that I really like about the Verizon Military Discount is that it’s continuous. You don’t have to reapply or renew your discount unless the company specifically asks you to for some reason. I’ve received that discount for years without interruption and it’s very convenient.

Some military discounts, like state parks passes, have to be renewed every year and that gets tedious. Verizon makes it easy to save money and to keep saving money by allowing the discount to continue uninterrupted.

My biggest complaint about the discount is that it doesn’t feel adequate. With four lines on my account, the discount really doesn’t help me save very much money. My Verizon bill is higher than any of my other utilities. It’s actually more expensive than all of my other utilities combined (including my electric bill!). Verizon is not a cheap service, even when the Verizon military discount is applied to your bill.

If I wasn’t so concerned about having solid rural coverage, I would probably switch to a service like Mint Mobile that is much cheaper. If I was still low income, I would definitely opt for a free phone service like Safelink instead of paying Verizon’s outrageous prices.

All that being said, I definitely appreciate the Verizon military discount. I need the superior rural coverage, so I’m pretty much stuck with Verizon regardless of their pricing. At least the military discount reduces the monthly price a little bit. At this point, every little bit helps.

Summary
