Maryland partnered with the Bridge Project to bring guaranteed income to pregnant mothers in three of the state’s ENOUGH Communities: Cherry Hill, Park Heights and Hagerstown.
The program combines unrestricted cash with additional support during pregnancy and the first years of a child’s life.
What the Bridge Project Offers
Participants receive approximately $20,000 in direct cash assistance over three years.
The payments are structured as:
- $1,125 one-time prenatal stipend
- $750 per month for the first 15 months
- $375 per month for the following 21 months
The cash is unrestricted, giving participants flexibility to use the money for their family’s needs.
The program also helps participants access additional resources, including WIC and SNAP, doula services and medical care, along with services from local and national providers, virtual counseling with experts and peer spaces where mothers can connect with one another.
Maryland’s inaugural phase was launched with $3.2 million in private philanthropic funding and is designed to support 150 mothers.
Who Qualifies
The Bridge Project is currently enrolling applicants in Maryland.
According to the current application page, you must:
- Live in one of the eligible ZIP codes:
- 21225 — Cherry Hill
- 21230 — Cherry Hill
- 21215 — Park Heights
- 21740 — Hagerstown
- Be 18 years old or older
- Be 27 weeks pregnant or less
- Be eligible for Medicaid
The Bridge Project also says no Social Security number or ITIN is required.
The original Maryland program announcement also listed an annual household income requirement of less than $39,000. However, that requirement is no longer listed among the eligibility requirements on the Bridge Project’s current application page, so applicants should follow the current requirements shown when they apply.
How to Apply
Applications are open now at bridgeproject.org/apply.
The Maryland program launched its application portal in May 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the program’s launch announcement stated that applications would remain open until all available slots are filled.
Eligible applicants are selected by lottery, rather than on a first-come, first-served basis.
Watch Out for Scams
The Bridge Project warns applicants that it will never ask for your Social Security number or ask you to provide bank information through a text message or email.
