Recovering from surgery, an illness, or a fall often means needing a walker, wheelchair, or ramp for a few weeks. Buying that equipment can be expensive, especially when you only need it temporarily.

The City of Broomfield’s Senior Services Loan Closet lends medical equipment to residents 60 and older for free. You can borrow items for up to two months.

Here’s what’s available and how to borrow it.

    What Equipment Can I Borrow?

The Broomfield Senior Services Loan Closet offers:

    • Wheelchairs and transport chairs
    • Knee scooters
    • Two-wheel walkers and four-wheel rollators
    • Reachers and grabbers
    • Canes
    • Crutches
    • Portable ramps

Important: As of April 1, 2025, the Loan Closet no longer carries shower chairs or benches because of limited space.

Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so specific items aren’t guaranteed to be in stock.

    Who Can Borrow Equipment?

    You must:

    • Be 60 or older, AND
    • Live in Broomfield, Colorado.

The program is meant for short-term needs, such as recovering from surgery, an illness, or a temporary disability.

How Long Can I Keep It?

You can borrow equipment for up to two months.

Items are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and you can’t reserve them ahead of time.

If you need a particular item, keep in mind that availability depends on what the Loan Closet has when you visit.

    How Do I Borrow Equipment?

    Visit the front desk at:

    Broomfield Community Center
    280 Spader Way
    Broomfield, CO 80020

Checkout hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You’ll fill out a short checkout form, and a Senior Services staff member will help you with the process.

When you’re finished using the equipment, return it to the front desk and complete a check-in form.

The city’s website doesn’t specify whether you need identification or proof of residency, or whether someone else can pick up equipment on your behalf. If you need to confirm those details, ask Senior Services before visiting.

    Does It Cost Anything?

No. Borrowing equipment is completely free.

Monetary contributions are welcome, but they’re not required.

The Loan Closet also isn’t accepting equipment donations right now because of limited space.

What If I Need Something Long-Term?

If you need equipment for longer than two months, or the Loan Closet doesn’t have what you need, the city provides a list of other local resources.

You can check its Loan Closet and Medical Supply Resource List for other equipment loan closets and medical supply companies in the area.

Availability, costs, and borrowing rules may differ at those locations.
