If you need a reliable vehicle in Northern Virginia, the Car Ministry may be able to help you! This amazing program connects people with the opportunity to receive a free car. They provide 50-90 vehicles away every year, depending on the number of donations received.
What is The Car Ministry?
The Car Ministry is a nonprofit organization in Falls Church, Virginia. It was founded in 1984 as one of the first car donation charities in the country. They’ve been providing donated cars and trucks to low income people ever since.
The vehicles that they donate all run well. They make sure that the vehicle can pass Virginia safety and emissions tests before they are given away. They work with several local shops to facilitate any needed repairs before passing them on.
Who is Eligible?
In order to be eligible to receive a vehicle from The Car Ministry, you must live in their service area, which includes:
- Arlington County
- Fairfax County
- Loudoun County
- Prince William County
- Stafford County
- Alexandria
- Fairfax
- Falls Church
- Manassas
- Manassas Park
The organization does not list any other specific requirements, although their form does ask about your employer’s information, church and pastor’s name, and your ability to pay up to $3,000 per year for insurance, repairs, fuel and taxes.
How Do I Apply?
Before you fill out the application, you need to receive a referral from a pastor or social worker. The application will ask for the contact information of those who referred you. Low Income Relief does not count as a valid referral source as we are neither pastors nor social workers.
Once you have received your referral, you can complete the application on their website.
Please note that they only hold onto applications for 30 days, so you may have to reapply again if you are not selected in that time.
