There are so many ways to get rental assistance in Colorado if you know where to look. We’ve already done the research for you and compiled it all right here in one easy-to-use guide.

Statewide Colorado Rent Relief

Some rental assistance programs serve the entire state of Colorado. But be sure to keep reading for a list of local rent relief programs, too!

Emergency Rental Assistance Program

Colorado’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) program provides emergency rental assistance to people who have a current court summons. The summons is called a Forcible Entry and Detainer.

If you have this form, you can contact the CARE Center right away for assistance. You can reach them by call or text at (720) 356-0174 or (888) 480-0066. The office is open during regular business hours on weekdays.

Temporary Rental Assistance Grant

If you do not have the form, you may be eligible for another program called the Temporary Rental Assistance Grant Initiative. This program can provide up to $10,000 in help to low income residents of Colorado.

In order to qualify for this program, you must live in Colorado and have a lease in your name. You must have a household income that is 80% of the Area Median Income or less.

This program is temporary and will only last until the fund has run out. The state opens the pre-application portal on the 15th of each month. Six days later, the state uses a random selection process to determine who will have the chance to complete the full application. If you are selected, you have to complete the full application within seven days.

You can apply online at the Colorado Department of Local Affairs website.
