Does DoorDash Take EBT?

Does DoorDash Take EBT?

Can you use EBT on DoorDash? The question of whether DoorDash accepts EBT (also known as SNAP or food stamps) is one that’s often asked, since figuring out what you can buy with SNAP benefits can be difficult if you’re not totally familiar with what qualifies. What you can buy with your EBT card can often disappoint or surprise us!

Will DoorDash accept EBT as payment?

The answer is YES! DoorDash has finally launched their pilot program to accept SNAP EBT payments. They have joined Instacart and Amazon as online retailers that can process EBT payments.

Right now, the SNAP/EBT Payment method is only available in limited areas an dmarkets. It’s not available to everyone yet. To see if it’s available in your area, you’ll need to check the Payments section of your app. If you can add a SNAP/EBT card, then it’s available for you.

If this option is not available for you yet, then you can email [email protected] to be notified when it expands to new locations.

You can only buy groceries with EBT on DoorDash.

Even though some restaurants accept EBT, DoorDash will not allow you to purchase restaurant meals with your food stamps card. The Restaurant Meals Program requires you to swipe your card in person at the restaurant anyway.

However, you can use your SNAP EBT benefits on DoorDash to purchase groceries from grocery stores and convenience stores that sell eligible food items.

Below is a list of the types of food that you can typically pay for with EBT:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Grains
  • Cereal
  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Poultry
  • Dairy
  • Seeds or food-producing plants

Although DoorDash does deliver from grocery or convenience stores, it’s most famous for delivering food from restaurants. Food from restaurants would qualify as food meant for immediate consumption, AKA the hot and prepared food that EBT will not pay for. Again, restaurant meals cannot be purchased with EBT on DoorDash.

How do I add SNAP EBT to DoorDash?

Again, you can only add your EBT card as a payment on DoorDash if you live in a participating area. If you do, the option to add your card will appear in the Payment Methods tab of your account.

To add the account, follow these steps:

  1. Open your DoorDash app.
  2. Navigate to “Payment Methods.”
  3. Click “Add SNAP/EBT Card.”
  4. Enter the 16-digit EBT card number.

Once the card is added, you will need to follow these steps in order to shop with your EBT card:

  1. Add eligible grocery items to your cart. Eligible items are marked with a SNAP label.
  2. Select your SNAP card at checkout. You’ll have to enter the amount that you want to have charged to your card for eligible purchases.
  3. Pay for the non-eligible items and fees with a different payment method. You cannot use your SNAP EBT card to pay for non-food items, fees, taxes or tips. These must be paid with a separate debit or credit card.

Wait – read this first!

Before you run off and add your benefits to DoorDash, there are a few important things that you need to know.

First, you’ll need a secondary payment method to cover the fees, taxes, tip and any non-eligible items in your order. A second payment method is required in order to make a purchase on DoorDash with EBT.

Second, not all stores are setup to process EBT. Only certain stores can accept those benefits through DoorDash. Eligible stores will be marked with a SNAP label. You should be able to filter the stores so that you only see participating ones as well.

Third, you can use promotion codes on SNAP EBT orders. Just enter the code at checkout! This can help you save money on your purchases and stretch those benefits further.

Fourth, any refunds for items purchased with SNAP will be returned to your EBT card. You cannot get refunded with DoorDash credit or to any other payment method. The refund will always be sent to your original payment method.

Fifth, you can see your available SNAP balance when you enter your card PIN at checkout. This is similar to how normal stores will print your balance on your receipt after you use your card.
