    The Senior Discount is available on the first Tuesday of every month, but it doesn’t apply to everything in the store. Knowing which items qualify can help you plan your shopping trip and get more from the discount.

    Am I Eligible at 55?

    Yes.

    Fred Meyer’s Senior Discount is available to shoppers who are 55 or older.

    You don’t have to wait until 60 or 65 to qualify.

    You can review the current offer on Fred Meyer’s official Senior Discount page.

    How Much Do I Save, and When?

    Eligible shoppers can receive an additional 10% off select items on the first Tuesday of every month.

    The discount is available for eligible purchases made in stores as well as eligible Pickup and Delivery orders placed online that day.

    Because the offer only applies to select merchandise, don’t assume your entire cart will receive 10% off.

    What’s Included?

    The discount covers several major categories, including:

    • Private-brand groceries and nutrition items;
    • Apparel, shoes and accessories;
    • Home merchandise, including toys, sporting goods, auto and garden items; and
    • Most electronics.

    Fred Meyer’s eligible private brands include familiar Kroger-family labels such as Fred Meyer, Kroger and Simple Truth, along with many other private brands.

    This makes the discount particularly useful if you already buy store-brand products.

    What’s Excluded?

    Fred Meyer’s exclusion list is extensive.

    The Senior Discount doesn’t apply to certain purchases, including:

    • Non-private-brand items in the Food, Natural Food, Pet, Pharmacy, and Health & Beauty departments;
    • Cosmetics;
    • Carhartt merchandise;
    • Items sold by the pound in Produce, Deli, Bakery, Meat, and Seafood;
    • Smoking cessation products;
    • Candy;
    • Alcohol;
    • Tobacco;
    • Event tickets;
    • Postage;
    • Lottery tickets;
    • Transit services;
    • Western Union services;
    • Money orders;
    • Fees;
    • Fuel;
    • Gift cards;
    • U.S. Forest Service passes;
    • Game licenses; and
    • Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.

    The offer is also not valid on prior purchases, and Fred Meyer says no rainchecks are available.

    Because some exclusions distinguish between private-brand and non-private-brand merchandise, don’t assume an entire department is excluded. An eligible private-brand item may be treated differently from a national-brand product in the same general area of the store.

    What About Fresh Groceries?

    Be especially careful here.

    Fred Meyer’s terms exclude items sold by the pound in Produce, Deli, Bakery, Meat, and Seafood.

    They also exclude non-private-brand food items.

    So rather than thinking of this as 10% off all your groceries, it’s better to think of it as a discount on eligible private-brand groceries and other qualifying merchandise.

    Check your items carefully if you’re planning a large shopping trip around Senior Discount Day.

    Do I Need to Enroll?

    This part isn’t clearly explained on Fred Meyer’s current Senior Discount page.

    Fred Meyer says customers currently enrolled in the Senior Discount will see their savings when they place an eligible order.

    However, the page doesn’t explain how a new customer enrolls in the Senior Discount.

    Because of that, don’t assume that simply having a regular Fred Meyer Rewards account automatically enrolls you.

    If you’re 55 or older but aren’t already enrolled in the Senior Discount, contact your local Fred Meyer or Fred Meyer Customer Care before the first Tuesday and ask how to add the Senior Discount to your account.

    Can I Use the Discount Online?

    Yes, on eligible orders.

    Fred Meyer says the Senior Discount applies to Pickup or Delivery orders placed online on the first Tuesday of the month.

    Customers who are already enrolled in the Senior Discount should see their applicable savings when placing the order.

    Remember that the same product exclusions still apply.

    Where Is Fred Meyer Available?

    Fred Meyer doesn’t operate nationwide.

    Its stores are located in:

    • Alaska
    • Idaho
    • Oregon
    • Washington

    That means this particular Senior Discount is mainly useful to shoppers in those four states.

    If you live elsewhere, another Kroger-family grocery store may have its own senior discount policy, but don’t assume Fred Meyer’s rules apply to another chain.

    Is This an Ongoing Discount?

    Yes.

    Fred Meyer currently offers the Senior Discount as an ongoing monthly promotion on the first Tuesday of each month rather than a one-time event.

    There isn’t a single application deadline to track. Just remember that eligible purchases need to be made on the designated Senior Discount Day.

    Relief Recap

    If you’re 55 or older and shop at Fred Meyer, you may be able to save an additional 10% on select purchases on the first Tuesday of every month.

    The discount can be particularly useful for private-brand groceries and qualifying general merchandise, but the exclusions are extensive, so check the terms before planning a large purchase.

    And if you’re not already enrolled in the Senior Discount, ask Fred Meyer how to enroll before Senior Discount Day rather than assuming your regular Rewards account automatically qualifies you.
