No matter where you’re located in this state, there are some agencies that can help you. Always turn to these agencies first!

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is one of the most helpful resources we’ve found for Christmas assistance. They provide holiday meals, toys and clothing to low income families. They also have a specific ministry for the families of prisoners. Please visit their website to look for your local Salvation Army chapter. Don’t delay – some of these agencies start registering as early as October.

Toys for Tots

The Marine’s Toys for Tots campaign serves most of the United States. When you visit their official website, you’ll be prompted to enter your state and select your local area. They register early and fill up fast, so don’t hesitate!

There are countless local Churches, food banks, missions and other nonprofits that assist with holiday gifts, meals and more. We’ve done our best to organize our list into county subheadings so that you can find assistance near you.

Litchfield County

FISH offers a free Christmas gifts and a holiday dinner to low-income families with children aged 17 years old and younger. To take part, families must apply for assistance between October 16th and November 10th and bring a valid photo ID, proof of income, proof of residency for all household members, and social security cards for everyone in the home when applying.

Families may fill out an application on Mondays from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, Tuesdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm and Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00am to 4:00pm. To learn more about their services, please call (860) 482-7300 or (860) 496-1648.

Middlesex County

The First Church of Christ Congregational offers a free Christmas dinner between noon and 2pm on the holiday. Residents of Middletown may be able to have their meals delivered if they are homebound. Rides may also be available. You will need to call ahead to arrange rides or delivery.

Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries at Grace Episcopal Church will serve a Christmas meal on December 23, 2022, from 12pm to 1pm. Everyone is welcome.

New Haven County

Beulah Heights Church offers a free holiday meal on Christmas, as well as Easter and Thanksgiving. You need to call before the holiday in order to register for the meal boxes and gift cards that they provide. This service is only available for residents of New Haven.

Community Dining Room in Branford offers a free take-out dinner and indoor dining for their holiday meal. It is served on Christmas between 12noon and 1:30pm.

First Congregational Church of Waterbury offers free Christmas and Thanksgiving meals at their location. The meals are served at the Church on the holiday, but you must call ahead to register in order to be served. That way, they know how many meals to prepare. For Christmas meals, you must call before Christmas eve. You can all them at (203) 757-0331.

YMCA of Meriden offers free pre-packaged holiday meals that can be picked up in advance. In order to find out more details about eligibility and registration requirements, please contact the YMCA directly.

New London County

Union Baptist Church serves Christmas meals. The meals are served at the Church at 2pm, but they must be picked up and eaten elsewhere. All are welcome but you will need to make a reservation in advance so that there are enough meals available. Homebound people may be able to receive delivery; others may be able to receive rides. You’ll need to call the Church in advance for these services.
