How to Find a Free Dry Laundromat Near Me

How to Find a Free Dry Laundromat Near Me

Finding a free dry laundromat near me was a lifesaver when I couldn’t afford to do my own laundry. If you’re relying on laundromats, you probably already know how insanely expensive it can be to use those machines.

.. but this little hack can save you a lot of money!

I learned about free dry laundromats years ago, when my husband was in the military. We were young and it was our first time moving out on our own. We had a small studio without any laundry hookups, and we needed to buy a car. We made some huge mistakes during the car buying process, and ended up maxing out our budget. Just a few days later, I realized I hadn’t left any wiggle room for laundry and other expenses. It was a disaster.

Finding a free dry laundromat near me helped me cut down on at least half of the expenses of doing laundry, which was tremendously helpful. If you are struggling to afford your laundry costs, finding one of these locations can help you too.

What is a free dry laundromat?

A free dry laundromat allows you to use the clothes dryers for free, usually as long as you’ve paid to use the washing machines. Removing the cost to dry your clothes can be tremendously helpful because it saves you money on half the expense of washing your clothes.

Sure, some people already avoid the costs of drying their clothes by taking their wet clothes home and hanging them to dry. However, that is burdensome and difficult, especially if you have to carry heavy bags of wet clothes up several flights of stairs and you don’t have anywhere to hang the wet clothes in the first place. It’s also especially burdensome for elderly and disabled people who may struggle to transport their clothing.

Many laundromats have found that offering free dry services attracts more customers and helps their customers stay happier. Some laundromats make even more money by offering these services, which makes this a win for everyone!

Watch out for these potential issues!

Customers prefer free dry laundromats because they’re looking for ways to save money. Obviously, business owners know this and that’s why they advertise these services. They want to get more customers.

However, not all business owners behave ethically and sometimes the services they offer are little more than a sales gimmick. If you are going to try one of these laundromats, there are a few warnings signs that you need to watch out for.

Always check the prices.

Business also have to make a profit to stay in business, so it is not uncommon to pay more for washers at laundromats that offer free drying services. Overall, you will likely save some money at these facilities.

However, it’s important to compare the cost of the overall wash/dry service with other laundromats in your area. You do this by adding up the total cost of washing and drying at both facilities, so that you can get a fair comparison.

Sometimes, the facilities that offer free dryers will charge significantly more for their washers and you’ll end up paying more than you would elsewhere. That’s why it’s important to comparison shop to make sure that you’re getting a good deal.

Watch out for short timers.

Sometimes, the free dryers will have ridiculously short timers. For example, A D wrote in a Yelp review for Wash U Coin Laundry that users should “keep in mind the free dryers run at 10 minute intervals.”

This is definitely inconvenient because it means you can’t simply set the dryer and leave for a while. You have to stay there so that you can restart the dryer every 10 minutes until your load is completely dry.

However, this isn’t necessarily intended to be malicious or a scam. It’s just that the business owners have to pay to run the machines, so keeping the free dry cycles short ensures that they aren’t paying for unnecessary electricity. It helps the business owner provide the free service.

How can I find a free dry laundromat near me?

Of course, this only helps you if you can find a participating laundromat in your area. Fortunately, we’ve found free dry laundromats in several areas. The following list is organized alphabetically by state and laundromat for your convenience.

Free Dry Laundromat Chains

There are not very many nationwide laundromat chains. Most of them are owned by local business providers. However, we were able to find a few chains that offer free dry services in multiple states.

Clean Laundry

Clean Laundry laundromats can be found in several states. It appears that many of them are free dry laundromats on certain days, but not all of them are. As far as I can tell, each local Clean Laundry location can choose its own policies and procedures.

For example, the Clean Dry Laundry on East Euclid Avenue in Des Moines offers free dry services during certain hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. There are no free dry services listed on Mondays or Fridays.

However, the Clean Dry Laundry on Douglas Avenue in Des Moines offers free dry services on Mondays and Fridays… and the location on SE 14th St in Des Moines doesn’t appear to offer free laundry services at all.
