An older home can leak heat in winter and cool air in summer. That means higher power bills, month after month.

Georgia Power’s EASE for Seniors program provides free energy-saving home improvements to income-qualified customers ages 60 and older. These upgrades may help make your home more comfortable while lowering your energy costs.

Here’s what’s covered, who qualifies, and how to apply.

    What Improvements Are Covered?

After a free in-home energy assessment, approved contractors may provide improvements such as:

    • Attic insulation
    • Air sealing to reduce drafts
    • Duct sealing
    • Heating and air conditioning (HVAC) servicing

Depending on your home’s needs, other improvements, such as smart thermostats or water-saving devices, may also be available.

All approved improvements are free. You won’t have to pay for the assessment or the work provided through the program.

However, Georgia Power does not replace windows or doors through EASE for Seniors. The improvements you receive depend on your home’s assessment and program guidelines.

You can review the available services on the official EASE for Seniors page.

    Who Qualifies?

To qualify for EASE for Seniors, you must meet all four requirements:

    • Georgia Power customer: You must receive electric service from Georgia Power.
    • Age: You must be at least 60 years old.
    • Homeownership: You must own the home and live in it.
    • Income: Your household income must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Georgia Power provides a current income chart on its EASE for Seniors website so you can check whether your household qualifies.

You’ll also need to provide proof of income. Depending on your circumstances, this may include Social Security or disability benefit documentation, pension information, pay stubs, a SNAP award letter, or other accepted records.

What If My Home Needs Repairs?

Georgia Power cannot provide EASE improvements to homes with unresolved health or safety problems.

    Examples include:

    • Roof leaks
    • Mold or moisture problems
    • Faulty electrical wiring
    • Gas leaks

These issues must be corrected before the program can complete its energy-saving improvements.

If you’re unsure whether your home qualifies, you can still ask the program about its requirements before applying.

    What If I Rent?

EASE for Seniors is specifically for homeowners, but renters may qualify for Georgia Power’s regular EASE program.

Regular EASE serves income-qualified Georgia Power customers of any age, with household income at or below 300% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Renters can apply, but their landlord must provide written consent before improvements can be made.

You can check eligibility and application information through Georgia Power’s income-qualified assistance portal.

    Is There Other Help?

HopeWorks, a Georgia nonprofit associated with senior home energy assistance, also has a separate program for qualifying homeowners ages 65 and older.

According to the Atlanta BeltLine’s HopeWorks resource listing, that program may help with gas furnace or water heater replacement.

This is separate from Georgia Power’s EASE for Seniors program and has different eligibility requirements. Contact HopeWorks to confirm whether assistance is currently available.

    How Do I Apply?

Start by visiting Georgia Power’s EASE for Seniors page and following the application instructions.

    Here’s what to expect:

    1. Check your eligibility. Make sure you meet the age, homeownership, Georgia Power customer, and income requirements.
    2. Submit your application. Provide the requested information and proof of household income.
    3. Schedule an assessment. If your application is approved, an assessor will contact you to arrange a free visit to your home.
    4. Receive approved improvements. A program contractor will complete any eligible work identified through the assessment at no cost to you.

Not every home will need or qualify for the same improvements. Approval depends on program eligibility, the home’s condition, and the assessment results.

    Relief Recap

Georgia Power’s EASE for Seniors program may help older homeowners save money on energy bills through free insulation, air sealing, duct sealing, and HVAC servicing.

To qualify, you must be 60 or older, own and live in your home, receive electricity from Georgia Power, and have household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.

Your home must also meet the program’s health and safety requirements, and the improvements provided will depend on an assessment.
