The Salvation Army might be able to help you provide your children with gifts at Christmas. You can get free Christmas gifts and food from the Salvation Army when you apply for and are approved for help through the organization. You will need to visit your local branch to get access to the resources they offer throughout the year and especially at the holidays.

Toys for Tots

Visit the Toys for Tots site to sign up for this program that the U.S. Marines do each year. You could get help with toys for your children no matter what age or gender they are. The organization requires you to apply for help as early as possible to make sure you get approved.

Kenawha & Putnam County

Heart & Hand Ministries operates a Christmas program that begins on October 1 every year. They can also help with rent, utilities, clothing vouchers, nonskid shoes or steel-toe boots required for employment, diapers, food and more!

Wayne County

If you’re in Wayne, Kenova, Lavalette, Crum, or Fort Gay, you can get help from organizations that service low income families in Wayne County. Families in Wayne County may qualify for free Christmas help from a variety of organizations, no matter where you are in the county, apply early to get help with free Christmas gifts and food.

Toy Assistance:

Wayne County, WV Christmas Wishes offers Christmas presents for Wayne County children in need. The children create wish lists, which get posted on their Facebook page, then people in the group sponsor as many children as they want during the Christmas holiday. To qualify for this program, you have to have children under 18 and you can’t have signed up for assistance with other agencies. Send them a message through Facebook to register. 

Appalachia Mission Excursion offers their Appalachia Christmas Mission program where they buy, wrap, and distribute toys to over 200 children every year. The toys are handed out by Santa and Mrs.Clause, as well as Sleepytime Bear and all of the Elves in the workshop. Because of Covid, this has become a two day drive-thru event (Toys are distributed on the second day), but it still puts a smile of childrens faces to receive a gift. 

The Salvation Army offers the Angel Tree program for children aged newborn to 12 years old from low-income families. This program gives children in need toys, clothing, shoes, and more through donations made by community members and organizations. 

Toys For Tots sets up donation boxes and holds annual toy drives to collect toys for children of low-income families. These toys get distributed just before the holidays, giving each child something to open on Christmas morning. This program gifted 11,470 gifts to 4,928 children during the 2021 Christmas season. 

Catholic Charities Of West Virginia also offers their Christmas Angel Tree program in which they partner with corporations, individual donors, local businesses and local volunteers to collect and distribute gifts to Wayne County children from low income families. They also help children with winter clothes, like hats, coats, and gloves that they distribute and gifts throughout the month.

Food Assistance:

Appalachia Mission Excursion offers up to 70 pounds of food to over 700 Wayne County families who are in dire need of assistance during the Christmas holiday. This event became a drive-thru event in 2020 during the covid crisis, but the drive is still entertaining as you can listen to Christmas music and look at the elaborate Christmas decorations as you drive. 

The Salvation Army offers a food pantry offering free bags of groceries and holiday dinner boxes filled with enough turkey or ham and traditional holiday fixings to feed the entire family. Their food pantry is Monday – Friday 8 AM – 4 PM, but make sure to send a message through the website to get more information about their Christmas program. 

Catholic Charities Of West Virginia offers several assistance programs for low-income and working poor families living in Wayne County. They offer food baskets to help those who qualify with holiday meals.

Trying to give my girls a Christmas they won't forget this year cause they haven't really had a good Christmas no anyone who delivers free Christmas gifts for 12 and 14 year old girls in Wyoming county west Virginia the best Christmas they had was when my neighbors went together and brought them a bunch of stuff like 6 years ago when my mom passed could use all the help I can get thanks in advance

Hello.my name is Tracy ..I am a mother of 3 and grandmother 2..I just had a kidney transplant on the 11th and I can't work..my daughter went to the army and now I have custody of my 5 yr old grandson...my son's help me in so many ways ..and grateful for that ..this yr I don't know how I am going to provide them with a Christmas ..I never missed a Christmas in there lives and it's Killin me ..my grandson asks me all the time is he getting coal for Christmas..I was looking up who helps with Christmas .and this was one..I don't know how true it is but it's worth a shot..plz if you can help my family this yr
