The Salvation Army in Foley and Daphne may help with your Riviera Utilities bill. The Salvation Army can donate to pay a portion of your bill if there are funds available. The organization doesn’t always have the funds and they usually only cover part of your bill. You may only get help from the Salvation Army once per year.
Alabama’s Neighbor Helping Neighbor fund may help you get caught up on a high electric bill. The fund is for those who need assistance and who qualify under the low-income guidelines. Since it is based on donations from other utility customers, funds may not always be available.
The Red Cross offers local assistance. You’ll need to apply through the Red Cross to find out if you’re eligible. You may get assistance with a portion of your bill. The Red Cross provides vouchers for those who need assistance.
LIHEAP can help you by offsetting the cost of your utility bill. The program works by allowing you to have a credit automatically applied to your bill each month. It is intended for use during the cold and hot months, but you can apply for it year round.
These tools can help you avoid shut off.
If it is below 32 degrees or you have extenuating circumstances, power companies are not legally allowed to shut off your power in Alabama. Those with emergency medical equipment are also protected under this law.

Many utility companies work with customers who struggle with a very high bill or a large past due amount. While Riviera Utilities doesn’t have official information on payment arrangements or extensions, you may be able to get them if you contact the office.
Upgrade your home to save money on your bill…for free!
Alabama offers a free chance for you to upgrade your home while also saving money on your bills. The weatherization program helps you insulate your home better and helps you pay for energy efficient appliances. You must qualify for the program through your local assistance office. Funds available are on a first qualified, first served basis.

Just a note, not upset, just hoping to help. Under Alabama Utility help for Riviera Utilities you list Neighbor helping Neighbor. But this is only for New Hampshire according to their website, and they just refer everyone else to go to their Community Action Agency.
Also the Salvation Army Social Services office are closed until 4 days after my bill is due. And my bill has doubled over the last 2 months. Nothing has changed since last summer so I could not figure it out. Well, turns out that because the 4th of July fell on a Thursday, the meter readers (however they do it) got that day off and apparently Friday the 5th, which is when my bill was supposed to be read. So when you throw in Sat the 6th & Sunday the 7th, that means my bill was not read until the 8th!! Which adds 3 extra days to my bill and apparently on 1 day for 2 hours something came on every 15 minutes. Yeah, that would be my window AC since my central doesn’t work. And Riviera Utilities has zero sympathy when you call the office. I have lived here in AL now just a little over a year and there is a general Utility consensus of “too bad so sad, not our problem figure it out”.
Thank you for all your research, hard work and information you put out for people in need. I am still going down the list of extra benefits with my EBT and I use the Ibotta and Fetch regularly. Still going down the list of other things.
