Community Fund Ohio’s Fall individual grant application is currently open, and eligible Ohio residents can apply for grants subject to a $7,500 lifetime cap.

But don’t wait too long. The current application window closes at 4:00 p.m. on November 15, 2026.

Funding is limited and the program is highly competitive, so qualifying does not guarantee you’ll receive a grant.

What Is the Community Fund Ohio Individual Grant?

Community Fund Ohio is a nonprofit organization that provides grants to Ohio residents with developmental disabilities for resources that can improve daily life and independence.

The program may help with expenses such as assistive technology, adaptive equipment, home modifications, specialized therapies, and vehicle modifications.

This isn’t cash that gets deposited into your bank account. Individual grant payments are generally made directly to third-party vendors for the approved item or service.

    How Much Could You Receive?

Individual applicants are subject to a $7,500 lifetime grant cap.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll receive $7,500 from a single application. Community Fund Ohio evaluates individual requests, and its grant program is highly competitive.

There is also no limit on how often an individual can apply, but the lifetime dollar limit still applies.

    Who Can Apply?

Under Community Fund Ohio’s current eligibility rules, you must be an Ohio resident and meet one of these requirements:

    • Have a developmental disability documented by a medical provider or representative from your local Board of Developmental Disabilities; OR
    • Be currently receiving services through Ohio’s Early Intervention program.

If you have a county Developmental Disabilities Waiver, Community Fund Ohio says those funds must be used first if they’re available.

Community Fund Ohio changed and streamlined some of its grant rules during 2026, so make sure you’re using the current grants page rather than relying on an older announcement or application guide.

What Can the Grant Pay For?

Community Fund Ohio doesn’t maintain one definitive list of items that will always be approved. Applications are evaluated individually based on the applicant’s needs.

Examples of requests the organization says it may fund include:

    • Wheelchairs and modified strollers
    • Speech or hearing assistance devices
    • Assistive technology and adaptive equipment
    • Ramps and accessible bathroom modifications
    • Sensory toys and tools
    • Disability-related vehicle modifications
    • Certain accessible vehicle purchases
    • Occupational and physical therapy
    • Music, art, equestrian, and other specialized therapies
    • Swimming, driving, music, and other lessons

You’ll need to explain how your request relates directly to your disability and why other potential funding sources, such as insurance, Medicaid, waivers, or your county Board of Developmental Disabilities, don’t cover it.

Are There Special Rules for Therapy?

    Yes.

If you’re requesting funding for therapy, Community Fund Ohio requires a written recommendation from a treating physician.

The physician providing the recommendation must be someone other than the therapist who would provide the requested service.

Examples of therapies that may qualify include occupational, physical, music, art, and equestrian therapy.

    What About Home Modifications?

Home modifications are one of the expenses Community Fund Ohio may help fund.

Examples include accessible bathroom conversions, exterior ramps, and other disability-related home improvements.

Because these projects can be expensive, Community Fund Ohio recommends including a detailed funding plan showing how the entire project will be paid for and completed.

    What About Vehicle Expenses?

Certain disability-related vehicle expenses may qualify, but there are important limitations.

Community Fund Ohio may consider vehicle modifications, such as specialized seating or equipment needed to accommodate a disability.

Accessible vehicle purchases may also be considered, but applicants must document the other funding sources that will contribute toward the purchase.

However, personal vehicle repairs are not covered.

    What Won’t the Grant Cover?

Community Fund Ohio has restrictions on what its grants can fund.

    Examples of excluded expenses include:

    • Rent or housing assistance
    • Cash paid directly to individuals
    • Personal vehicle repairs
    • Health insurance deductibles
    • ABA therapy
    • Childcare
    • Past-due balances
    • School tuition and fees
    • Service dogs
    • Trampolines

Funding rules can change, so review the current funding scope before submitting your application.

    What About Summer Camp?

Summer camp requests follow a different schedule.

Community Fund Ohio says summer camp applications are accepted during the Winter Quarter only, so don’t submit a summer camp request during the current Fall application period.

Check the current grants page when the Winter Quarter approaches for the applicable dates and requirements.

    When Is the Current Deadline?

Community Fund Ohio’s Fall Quarter application period opened October 1, 2026.

The current individual grant application will remain available until:

    4:00 p.m. on November 15, 2026

Don’t assume you’ll be able to submit after that time just because the application portal is still visible.

Community Fund Ohio reviews applications quarterly, and the process from submission to an award can take up to four months. This means the program isn’t designed for an expense that needs to be covered immediately.

    How Do I Apply?

Applications must be submitted through Community Fund Ohio’s online grant portal.

The organization does not accept individual grant applications by fax, email, or regular mail.

    Before you apply:

    1. Make sure you meet the current eligibility requirements.
    2. Gather documentation of the developmental disability or Early Intervention participation.
    3. Explain how the requested item or service relates to the disability.
    4. Identify other funding sources you’ve tried, when applicable.
    5. Get a quote or unpaid invoice for your request.
    6. Confirm that your chosen vendor accepts third-party payments.

Community Fund Ohio specifically tells applicants to confirm that vendors will accept third-party checks before applying.

You can access the current application and instructions through the Community Fund Ohio Individual Grants page.

    What Happens If You’re Approved?

Community Fund Ohio generally pays individual grants directly to the vendor providing the approved item or service.

That means you shouldn’t expect to receive the grant as unrestricted cash.

Grant funds must also be used for the purpose described in your application.

    Need Help With the Application?

Community Fund Ohio says its Grant Program Officer can help applicants through the process.

If you have questions, you can call Community Fund Ohio at 216-736-4540.

Because eligibility and funding rules have changed during 2026, asking questions before submitting could be especially helpful if you’re unsure whether your request qualifies.

    Relief Recap

Ohio residents with qualifying developmental disabilities can currently apply for a Community Fund Ohio individual grant, with awards subject to a $7,500 lifetime cap.

The grant may help pay for disability-related needs including adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, ramps, accessible bathroom modifications, vehicle modifications, and certain therapies.

The program is highly competitive, so eligibility doesn’t guarantee funding.

Most importantly, the current Fall application closes at 4:00 p.m. on November 15, 2026.
