    What is Power AZ?

Power AZ is a brand-new state program launched in March 2026 to help Arizona families manage rising energy costs. It’s backed by a $15 million statewide investment and is designed to reach working households who earn too much to qualify for traditional low-income assistance programs like LIHEAP.

The program is available through September 30, 2026 — or until funding runs out, so it’s important to apply as soon as possible.

    How Much Can You Get?

Depending on your household size and income, you could receive:

    • Up to $640 in regular bill assistance
    • Up to $500 in a one-time crisis payment if you’re facing an emergency situation (such as a shutoff notice)

You can receive one standard benefit and one crisis benefit within a 12-month period. That’s up to $1,140 in a single year!

    Who Qualifies?

Eligibility is based on your household size and monthly gross income. It’s based on the State Median Income, so here are the income limits for 2026:

    Household SizeMonthly Gross Income Limit
    1 person$4,894
    2 people$6,400
    3 people$7,906
    4 people$9,412
    5 people$10,918
    6 people$12,424
    7$12,706
    8$12,988

For households larger than 8, limits continue to increase. Call your local LIHEAP provider for details.

    How Do I Apply?

You apply through the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES). When you apply, the system will automatically check whether you qualify for Power AZ, LIHEAP, or both — you only need to fill out one application.

    Two ways to apply:

    1. Online: Through the A-to-Z Arizona Portal
    2. Paper application: Available at your local Community Action Agency

💡 Note: You can only receive benefits from one program (Power AZ or LIHEAP) per eligibility period, but the application screens you for both automatically.

    Need Help Applying?

If you need help applying, yoru local Community Action Agency should be able to help you.

But don’t wait to reach out because funding is limited! Power AZ is a first-come, first-served program. If you’re behind on your electric bill or worried about keeping your power on this summer, apply today at des.az.gov/liheap.
