Christmas on a military budget is tough. Add a deployment, an injury, or a move, and it can feel impossible.

Soldiers’ Angels runs a holiday program made just for these families. Its Adopt-A-Family program matches eligible military and veteran families with volunteers who provide Christmas gifts for children and grocery gift cards for a holiday meal.

The window is short, and the paperwork matters. Applications close November 10, 2026, or earlier if the program fills up. Here’s what you need to know before applying.

    What Does Adopt-A-Family Give You?

Each approved family may be matched with a person, group, or business that provides holiday assistance. Your adopter can see your family’s wish list and contact you about shipping or delivery, according to the program overview.

For 2026, Soldiers’ Angels says participating families can receive:

    • $50 to $75 in Christmas gifts for each registered child.
    • A $75 to $125 grocery gift card to help purchase food for a holiday meal.

The program is meant to help with Christmas, not cover all of it. Your adopter is spending their own money, so keep your wish list practical.

Important: Getting approved does not guarantee your family will be adopted. Soldiers’ Angels prioritizes families with the greatest need and those who haven’t participated before. Assistance depends on available sponsors.

    Who Qualifies?

You need eligible children living in your home, and you must fit one of the military or veteran groups below.

Soldiers’ Angels lists these eligibility categories on its 2026 registration page:

    • Deployed active-duty military: E1–E6 service members registered with Soldiers’ Angels for deployed support, with orders showing deployment through December 25, 2026.
    • Non-deployed active-duty military: E1–E6 service members stationed in the continental United States who have a letter of need from a chaplain, unit leader, or military support agency.
    • National Guard or Reserve members: Those activated through December 25, 2026, with the required documentation and letter of need.
    • Post-9/11 veterans: Honorably discharged veterans with a qualifying wound, illness, or injury, such as a Purple Heart or a VA disability rating of at least 10%. Geographic restrictions apply, including a continental U.S. requirement for this category.
    • HUD-VASH veterans: Veterans currently housed through the HUD-VASH program.

Every family must also meet Soldiers’ Angels income guidelines based on 2025 or 2026 earnings.

    What About the Children?

Children must be 18 years old or younger, still in high school, and living in your home.

Eligible children include biological children, legally adopted children, and stepchildren who meet the program’s dependent verification requirements.

Children who have already graduated from high school generally aren’t eligible, even if they’re younger than 19.

Check the official family FAQ for additional rules before registering your children.

    What Documents Do I Need?

Get your paperwork ready before you start because Soldiers’ Angels says you can’t save the application and finish it later.

Depending on how you qualify, you may need:

    • Proof of military service: Deployment or activation orders, your DD-214 (Member 4 or Service 2 copy), NGB Form 22, or a signed HUD-VASH letter dated within the past 30 days.
    • Proof of disability: If you’re applying based on a qualifying VA disability, your VA disability letter must be dated in 2026.
    • Proof of income: W-2s, retirement or SSI/SSDI documentation, your VA benefits summary, and records of other income, such as caregiver stipends. Bank statements showing deposits may also be required.
    • Proof of dependents: Your DEERS enrollment form (DD Form 1172-2) or other accepted documents for each child you’re registering. HUD-VASH families may be able to document children through their case manager’s letter.
    • Additional military documentation: Some applicants, including non-deployed active-duty service members, may need identification or a letter confirming their need for assistance.

Not every family needs every document. The requirements depend on your military or veteran category.

Review the official instructions carefully so you don’t have to start over because something is missing.

    How Do I Apply?

Start by reading the Soldiers’ Angels Adopt-A-Family FAQ.

    Then follow these steps:

    1. Visit the Holiday Adopt-A-Family registration page.
    2. Review the eligibility requirements for your military or veteran category.
    3. Gather your income, service, and dependent verification documents.
    4. Complete the application in one sitting and submit the required information.
    5. Watch your email, texts, and voicemail for messages from Soldiers’ Angels.

If you already have a Soldiers’ Angels account, don’t create another one. Use the website’s account assistance option if you need help accessing it.

After you apply, a Soldiers’ Angels team member will review your information.

If your application is approved, your family may be considered for adoption by a volunteer, group, or business. However, approval doesn’t guarantee that a sponsor will be available.

    When Is the Deadline?

Registration opened September 1, 2026, and is scheduled to close November 10, 2026.

However, Soldiers’ Angels may close registration earlier if the program reaches capacity.

That means waiting until the last week could cause you to miss your chance to apply.

If your family meets the requirements and needs holiday assistance, visit the official registration page as soon as possible.

    Relief Recap
