Twilight Wish is a national nonprofit that grants wishes to eligible older adults. It does not charge you anything to apply or receive a wish.

Here is who can ask, what the foundation may grant, and what to know before you apply.

What Does Twilight Wish Actually Grant?

The Twilight Wish Foundation sorts wishes into three main categories:

    • Simple Needs: Practical items that can make everyday life easier or more comfortable.
    • Living Life to the Fullest: Special experiences, such as attending a baseball game or participating in an activity you have always wanted to enjoy.
    • Celebrating a Life: Meaningful experiences, such as returning to your hometown or reconnecting with an important part of your past.

The foundation’s home page also highlights practical wishes involving items such as lift chairs, hearing aids, and accessibility equipment.

However, some of these examples overlap with categories the foundation lists as restricted. If you need medical equipment or a home accessibility modification, ask whether your specific request is eligible before applying.

Wishes are supported through donations, community partners, and volunteers. The foundation arranges approved wishes rather than giving applicants unrestricted cash.

There is no cost to apply, but receiving a wish is not guaranteed.

    What Can’t Twilight Wish Grant?

This part matters, so read it before getting your hopes up.

According to its official request page, Twilight Wish does not grant certain types of requests, including:

    • Housing, home remodeling, or construction
    • Bill payments or cash
    • Medical items, including surgery or pharmaceutical items
    • Vehicles and other physical assets
    • Funeral expenses or headstones
    • Vacations without a clear purpose
    • Political, dangerous, or illegal wishes
    • Wishes that would extend beyond the recipient’s lifetime

There is an important detail to understand.

Although the request page excludes medical items, Twilight Wish also shares examples of wishes involving hearing aids, wheelchairs, lift chairs, and other accessibility equipment.

The foundation does not clearly explain how those examples fit with its current restrictions.

The same uncertainty may apply to accessibility ramps because the foundation also restricts home remodeling and construction.

If your wish involves medical equipment, accessibility modifications, or another potentially restricted item, ask Twilight Wish whether it qualifies before submitting your request.

    Who Qualifies?

Twilight Wish has specific eligibility requirements.

According to its request page, applicants generally must meet the following conditions:

    • Age or living arrangement: Be at least 65 years old OR permanently reside in an eldercare facility.
    • Financial circumstances: Have annual income below 200% of the federal poverty level OR be unable to fulfill the wish for reasons other than financial hardship.
    • History of service: Have a record of giving back through military, community, or family service.
    • Ability to experience the wish: Be mentally and physically capable of communicating and experiencing the requested wish.
    • Citizenship: Meet the foundation’s U.S. citizenship requirement.

For 2026, Twilight Wish lists an annual income figure of $31,920 or less for a household of one.

Federal poverty guidelines vary by household size and location. You can learn more in our guide to federal poverty levels.

The foundation may also consider applicants who cannot fulfill their own wishes for non-financial reasons, even if their income is above the stated threshold.

However, that does not guarantee approval. Twilight Wish reviews each application and determines whether the request meets its eligibility rules and mission.

The foundation may ask for medical documentation or a doctor’s approval, depending on the wish.

According to its FAQ, individuals who have already received an individual wish from Twilight Wish cannot receive another individual wish.

    What Counts as Giving Back?

Twilight Wish looks for a history of service to the nation, community, or family.

The foundation identifies three general types:

    • Military service: Serving in the Armed Forces.
    • Community service: Volunteering or helping others in your community.
    • Family service: Providing meaningful care or support to family members.

The foundation does not provide an exhaustive list of activities that qualify.

If you served in the military, volunteered, cared for a parent or sibling, or supported others in a meaningful way, describe that experience clearly in your application.

You do not need to exaggerate what you have done.

If you are unsure whether your experience meets the requirement, ask Twilight Wish before applying.

    How Do You Apply?

You can apply for yourself or nominate someone else.

That means you do not need children or family members to submit a request on your behalf.

However, the foundation does not accept applications submitted by paid third parties.

    Here’s how to get started:

    1. Visit the Twilight Wish request page. You can complete the online application or download the printable form.
    2. Describe your wish. Explain what you are requesting and why it would be meaningful to you.
    3. Gather your documents. The foundation asks for proof of age, income, and residency.
    4. Include additional documentation if needed. Veterans may need to provide military discharge documents. Certain wishes may also require a doctor’s approval.
    5. Submit your application. Follow the instructions on the official request page and provide the supporting documents requested.

The online form accepts document uploads, so you may be able to complete the initial application without making a phone call.

If phone calls are difficult for you, you can also ask whether the foundation can provide additional instructions in writing. That option is not guaranteed.

A trusted friend, neighbor, caregiver, or social worker may be able to help you gather documents and complete the application, as long as they are not charging to submit the wish.

Twilight Wish does not charge an application fee.

    How Long Does It Take?

Twilight Wish says its wish committee reviews applications monthly.

The foundation aims to respond within 60 days, but this is a goal rather than a guaranteed deadline.

Even if your application is approved, the timing of your wish depends on available donations, funding, volunteers, and other resources.

Some wishes may take longer to arrange than others.

The foundation may also decline a request if it does not meet its eligibility requirements, restrictions, or mission.

There is no general application deadline published on the official request page, but that does not mean every type of wish is available at all times.

If your request involves a particular date or event, explain the timing when you apply and ask whether the foundation can consider it.

    Relief Recap

Small joys and meaningful experiences matter, especially when you are living on a fixed income or handling life’s challenges on your own.

Twilight Wish Foundation helps eligible older adults fulfill practical or meaningful wishes at no cost.

Generally, applicants must be at least 65 or permanently live in an eldercare facility, meet the foundation’s financial or non-financial hardship criteria, and have a history of serving others. Additional requirements apply.

Not every wish qualifies, and approval depends on the foundation’s rules and available resources. If your request involves medical equipment or home modifications, ask about eligibility first.

Start by visiting the official Twilight Wish application page to review the requirements and submit your request.
