What is Love INC?

Love In the Name of Christ, or Love INC, is a Christian organization that offers relief to low income Americans across the United States. Whether you need help with food, shelter, childcare, employment, legal services or something else entirely, the compassionate staff at your local organization will do their best to help you find the services that you need.

What is Love INC?

Love INC is a nationwide Christian organization that partners or affiliates with churches to provide resources and training. In turn, these churches are then better equipped to support you through your struggles.

There are currently 115 Love INC locations across 29 states. Each local group is a partnership between local Christian churches who work together to address community needs like hunger and homelessness. Each local chapter has a formal agreement with the national organization bit it’s governed by its local board of directors. That’s why some of the services may vary widely depending on how the organization operates in your area.

What does Love INC help with?

As described in the next section, each chapter operates independently and offers unique services based on what is needed in the local community.

How does Love INC work?

Every Love INC operates a clearinghouse, or call center, which helps people in need connect with nearby Churches that can help. When you call the Clearinghouse, you’ll talk to someone who can screen your request, verify your need and then refer you to a local ministry, church or volunteer who can help fill that need.

As calls come in, gaps are identified. The local churches work together to identify and fill the gap in the resources that are already available in the community. This gap may include things like furniture, car repair services or other specific needs. This is another reason why services may vary widely depending on which Love INC location you visit – because each area has a unique gap.

Some organizations also offer classes, life-skills training, mentorships, and support for chronic needs. It just depends on what is needed in your area and what the local churches can offer.

When did Love INC start?

The nationwide Love INC organization began in 1977. However, local partnerships have different start dates. Some are just beginning!

Why did Love INC change its name?

Sometimes, local Love INC organizations will decide to separate from the national organization. When that happens, the charter is broken and the local organization will need to rebrand. In that case, it’s usually the same local coalition of Churches offering similar services but without the benefit (or burden) of the nationwide Love INC organization overseeing the process.

There are 115+ affiliated churches and 7,800+ partner churches across the United States and Kenya. You can visit their website to find affiliated churches in your area.

What happens when I contact them?

When you find your local organization, you will need to reach out to them over phone, email or through another method in order to go through their intake process. They will ask questions about what you need and verify that you have a legitimate need. Many people try to take advantage of low income programs, so this is a normal intake process for new clients.

Once your eligibility is established, the coordinator will refer you to the church or organization that can help fill your need. This can take some time, so please do not expect immediate results. However, they will do their best to serve you as quickly as possible.
