Can you use WIC on Walmart pickup? Online shopping is convenient since it can save you time and help minimize going out during the ongoing pandemic. Not every location lets you use your benefits online, though, even if they accept them in store. How does Walmart’s online shopping option work in terms of using WIC?
What is WIC?
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (or just WIC for short) provides free food for infants, pregnant women, and children five years old or younger. You will also have to meet certain income guidelines, a state residency requirement, and be determined as nutritionally at risk by a healthcare professional.
Here is a general list of some foods you can purchase with WIC benefits:
- Iron-fortified infant formula
- Infant cereal
- Baby foods
- Fruit juice
- Vegetable juice
- Peanut butter
- Dried or canned beans
- Dried or canned peas
- Canned fish
- Soy-based beverages
- Whole wheat bread
- Iron-fortified adult cereal

Can I use WIC on Walmart Pickup?
As of January 28th 2022, unfortunately the answer is no. You cannot currently use WIC to pay for Walmart Pickup. Walmart accepts WIC payment at all stores across the nation through their regular checkout lines, but an online shopping option is not available.
However, you may be able to use WIC to pay for Walmart Pickup sometime in the future. This announcement from Walmart states that Walmart plans to launch a 2022 pilot program in Washington and Massachusetts. This means that sometime in the year 2022, people in Washington and Massachusetts will be part of an experimental trial where Walmart tests out allowing customers to pay for WIC eligible items online.
If this pilot goes well, Walmart hopes to expand this program to more states and allow more people across the nation to use WIC on Walmart Pickup.

Most major grocery and retail stores do accept WIC payments at their regular checkout lines!
