The Salvation Army might help some people who need assistance with their utility bill. They generally have a $200 cap on the amount they will help with. You must apply at the Salvation Army center closest to you. The organization does not offer help more than once per year, per family.
You can apply for the Indiana EAP. The program is intended for low-income individuals who struggle to pay their bills. You will need to apply through your local assistance or community action agency. While you may not need a shut-off notice to get started, having one might qualify you for emergency assistance.

At the Christ Church in Indianapolis, you might be able to get help with your utility bill. The first 10 people in line on Tuesday mornings might be able to get $50 toward their utility or rent bill. You must provide proof of your bill and you may not get $50 toward both. The line fills up quickly so make sure you get there early!
Indianapolis Catholic Charities could help you pay for a portion of your bill. The organization is religious-based, but it does not require you to be a member of the Catholic religion. The organization requires you to have a shut-off notice to get assistance. They may only provide help once per year.

You might even qualify for new roofing, new windows or a new HVAC system.
Citizens Energy offers some natural gas rebates for customers in Indianapolis. These rebates are applied directly to your bill and depend on how much energy you use during times where peak usage is in place.
