While you may not need a shut-off notice to get started, having one might qualify you for emergency assistance.

At the Christ Church in Indianapolis, you might be able to get help with your utility bill. The first 10 people in line on Tuesday mornings might be able to get $50 toward their utility or rent bill. You must provide proof of your bill and you may not get $50 toward both. The line fills up quickly so make sure you get there early!
Indianapolis Catholic Charities could help you pay for a portion of your bill. The organization is religious-based, but it does not require you to be a member of the Catholic religion. The organization requires you to have a shut-off notice to get assistance. They may only provide help once per year.
While Anna’s House does not have an official program for utility assistance, they might be able to provide some families with assistance toward your utility bill. If you’ve received a shut-off notice and you’re unable to pay it, you might be able to get help through the organization.

Citizens Energy offers some payment arrangements to help you get the time you need to pay your bill. You must apply for payment arrangements through Citizens Energy to get help. There are certain requirements you’ll have to meet like not being on a payment arrangement already. Not everyone will qualify for payment arrangements.
You might get help through the budget billing program. The program can help you avoid big fluctuations in your bill during the summer and winter by allowing you to average out the amount you pay. While your bills will be the same throughout the 12 months, at the end for the period, you must pay any remaining amount over the average to get caught up.

The Indiana Weatherization Program might be able to help you upgrade your home. Using the program, you might be able to get free upgrades that will help you save money on your bill. The program could help low-income families and individuals save money by adding insulation and other features that will make your home more energy efficient. You might even qualify for new roofing, new windows or a new HVAC system.
Citizens Energy offers some natural gas rebates for customers in Indianapolis. These rebates are applied directly to your bill and depend on how much energy you use during times where peak usage is in place.
