What Is the Homeowner Repair Program?
Think of this as help for the repairs that keep you up at night, not the ones you’d like to get to someday. The city built this program around one goal: fixing problems in your home that could actually hurt someone if they go unaddressed.
That means a grant here isn’t going toward a kitchen remodel or fresh paint. It’s for the stuff that’s genuinely dangerous to live with.
Applications are reviewed in the order they’re received, and funding is limited. If you think you qualify, it’s worth applying sooner rather than later.
What Repairs Are Covered?
Covington will consider a wide range of urgent issues, including but not limited to:
- A roof that’s actively leaking
- Gutters or downspouts that have come loose or fallen
- A broken furnace or failing HVAC system
- Water or sewer line problems
- A water heater that’s gone out
- Electrical issues, like exposed wiring or a fuse box that isn’t working safely
- Certain modifications to make your home more accessible
- Lead paint hazards confirmed by the Northern Kentucky Health Department
If your home has a problem like that, it’s worth applying.
Who Is Eligible?
Covington built this program for homeowners who live in the home they own, so you’ll need to check a few boxes:
- You own and personally live in a single-family home inside Covington’s city limits
- Your household income falls at or under 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for your family size
- You haven’t gotten a home repair grant from the city in the last five years
A few groups get bumped to the front of the line: veterans, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and households earning at or below 50% of AMI. If that’s you, it’s worth noting on your application.
How Do I Apply?
You can apply online through the city’s application portal. There’s no mention of a paper application option, so if you need help applying online, it’s worth calling the city directly.
Applications are reviewed first-come, first-served, so don’t wait until funding runs low to submit yours.
What If I Don’t Qualify, or I Live Outside Covington?
This program is only for homeowners inside Covington city limits.
