Family of God Ministry

Family of God Ministry offers many different assistance programs for low income families in Arizona, including an annual Holiday Assistance program. They also provide help with diapers, feminine hygiene products, funeral and burial expenses, furniture, grocery gift cards, school supplies and more.

The organization is located in Phoenix but their website states that their agency serves homeless and low income families in Arizona, so it appears they may be able to provide assistance statewide.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army in Arizona offers free Christmas gifts and meals for families in need. One of their main programs is the “Angel Tree”. Here, donors choose a child’s wish from a tree and buy that gift.

To get help, find your closest Salvation Army center in Arizona. You may be asked to provide ID for all family members, proof of where you live, and some proof of your income. It’s best to apply early and to check their website or call them for any specific details.

There are over 81 Catholic parishes that host the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the Phoenix area alone! There are additional locations throughout the state. Clearly, SVdP has a tremendous presence in Arizona.

Toys for Tots

Flagstaff Family Food Bank in Flagstaff may be able to help your family with food during the holiday season. It is not clear if they have a dedicated holiday program, but they always invite low income families in the Flagstaff area to pick up free food once per month. They also offer a hot meal every day.

Sedona Community Food Bank in Sedona provides free food year-round to low income families living in Sedona, Cornville, Village Of Oak Creek, and Page Springs. It is not clear if they have a dedicated holiday program.

Gila County

Gila County Christmas Bike Program provides nearly 150 free refurbished bikes to families in need throughout Gila County every year. This program is operated by Gila County Recycling & Landfill Management. They collect bikes from the landfill and inmates repair and refurbish them.

Pine-Strawberry Food Bank in Pine offers Christmas boxes for low income families who need assistance. They try to include a ham when donations allow. They also provide assistance with Thanksgiving meals as well.

Maricopa County

Agua Fria Food & Clothing Bank in Avondale hosts a holiday program. This program provides free Christmas meals and gifts for eligible families. Applications are accepted starting October 1st every year. You need to apply as soon as possible because it usually fills up before Halloween.

Christian Family Care in Phoenix collects Christmas gifts for children who are served by their agency. This is exclusively for foster children.

Eagle Pathway in Phoenix has several holiday programs for foster children. The Let It Snow event invites families to enjoy a free petting zoo, snow slide, and more. The Stockings of Love program provides a free Christmas dinner and free gifts for eligible families.

FOR Maricopa in Maricopa has a Christmas wish gift program that provides help for children up to age 16. You need to sign up during their registration events, which take place in early to mid November.

Helen’s Hope Chest in Mesa provides gifts, stuffed animals, books and quilts to foster families during the Christmas season. Foster and kinship parents can go shopping for their eligible children with the help of a volunteer from this organization. Call them for details.

Foothills Food Bank in Cave Creek hosts an annual Adopt-a-Family program that serves over 1,000 low income families every year! The items donated to families include Walmart gift cards, family games, puzzle books, blankets, socks and more. All the gifts are distributed at an annual event held in December. You need to register with the organization in advance.

The Foster Alliance in Phoenix hosts several Holiday Joy Fest events that distribute free holiday gifts to children in foster care. These events are held throughout the month of December and you need to register in advance on their website.

Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank in Chandler has a Holiday Food Box Program for existing clients. You must already be a client of the food bank in order to receive these special boxes. If you are, then you can receive a free turkey or ham and all the trimmings needed to feed 4-6 people.

Nourish Phoenix in Phoenix offers a Holiday Giving program that appears to distribute toys and other items to families in need. However, they do not elaborate on what this program involves. You’ll most likely need to register with their food bank for more information.

OCJ Kids in Phoenix hosts annual holiday event called One Bright Star. This event is exclusively for foster children. Foster families are invited to go bowling, eat snacks, see Santa Claus and receive gifts. You have to register in advance.

Rise & Dream Foundation serves Phoenix and the surrounding areas with holiday assistance for low income families. They have an adopt-a-family program that connects sponsors with families who need help. Families that participate may receive toys, shoes, clothes, hygiene supplies and even free haircuts through this organization. Contact them for details!

Scottsdale Community Partners has an Adopt-a-Family program for low income residents of Scottsdale. This program provides holiday meals and up to five gifts for each child in the family.

Pima County

Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona has many locations throughout the county. They provide holiday food boxes for low income people in the area.

Miracle on 31st Street is an annual event that has been bringing Christmas joy to low income children for over 50 years. Their 2022 event served over 1,000 kids!

Pinal County

Youth Haven Desert Ranch in Eloy is a free camp for children who have experienced hardship. They offer a Christmas program that includes gifts.

Yavapai County

Old Town Mission in Cottonwood offers free holiday meal boxes and hot community meals. When donations allow, they also provide grocery store gift cards, toys for children, and winter clothing.

Yavapai County Food Bank may also be able to help you get extra food for the holidays. Their food bank distributes food boxes year-round.

I live in Navajo county. In Show Low Arizona. I'm a single mom with 2 daughters ages 6 and 9 years old. I'm recently divorced and can barely make ends meet.
