Make sure you’re paying your bill the right way!

There are many ways you can pay your Otter Tail Power bill. However, if you aren’t careful, you may run into fees and other unexpected surprises.

Always pay from your bank account instead of your card.

Paying the wrong way could cost you! If you use ePay to pay through a checking or savings account, then you will be able to pay your Otter Tail Power bill with no additional fees. However, you’ll get an extra $2.25 fee if you have to pay with a credit or debit card through the EZ-PAY system.

Enroll in Even Monthly Payment (EMP) to manage your budget.

The EMP program averages your annual electric usage over twelve months. You’ll pay the same amount toward your utilities, even in the seasons that are usually more expensive. Unlike other providers, Otter Tail Power even pays interest on your credit balance!

Make sure you check your bill for errors.

Make sure you understand how to read your bill! Otter Tail Power offers a convenient tutorial on how to read the bills they send. They also offer a Customer Service Guarantee that will pay you up to $25 if you find an error!

Get customized advice on how to save money in your home.

Different homes consume energy differently. Although energy-saving lists like this are helpful, they don’t always help with your specific situation.

The Home Energy Analyzer is a great place to start.

If you’re an Otter Tail Power customer, you can use their online Home Energy Analyzer to learn about your unique energy use. You can find this tool on their website.

Get a FREE Home Transformer Energy Assessment!

I’ll admit: I struggle with the online assessments because they often require information I simply don’t know. I prefer the in-person assessments that can thoroughly figure out why I spend so much on electricity each month.

Good news! Otter Tail Power customers may qualify for a FREE Home Transformer Energy Assessment! This program sends an energy expert to your home to evaluate your energy use. They’ll do a blower door test to determine how airtight your home is. They’ll use thermal imaging to evaluate your insulation. At the end of the survey, they’ll provide a detailed list of suggestions that can help you reduce your power bills.

As part of the FREE assessment, they’ll also provide you with some free energy-efficiency products, including LED light bulbs, outlet gaskets, window caulking, weather stripping, faucet aerators and other tools. Altogether, you’ll receive about $500 worth of products and services completely free – and it’ll lower your monthly bills, too!

In order to qualify, you must be an Otter Tail Power customer who uses electricity as their primary heating source. You also need to have an electric water heater, own your home, and have a satisfactory payment history. You can only receive one free audit within a five year period.

The Community Action Council is in charge of coordinating this program on their behalf, so you’ll need to reach out to them. For income limits and details, visit this link.

Running air conditioning can be expensive. If you have an air conditioner, you can enroll in CoolSavings air conditioning cycling to save $33 on your summer cooling costs! You will receive a credit on your bills in June, July, August and September just for participating.
