What is SparkHope Automotive?
SparkHope Automotive is a nonprofit dedicated to helping people who are working but still experiencing poverty. They used to be called Good Neighbor Garage.
The goal of this organization is to make sure people have reliable low-cost transportation. Because demand is high, they’ve chosen to start with single moms. They provided over 57 free vehicle placements, 1,270 vehicle repairs and 311 vehicle maintenance services in 2025.
Who is Eligible?
In order to be eligible for their services, you will need to be:
- Single (not living as married)
- Mother of dependent children (children must be age 18 or under OR disabled)
- Living in Denver metro area (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas or Jefferson counties)
- Able to pay 50% of service costs for vehicle repair and maintenance
- Valid driver’s license, registration and insurance
There may be other requirements but if so, they are not publicly available.
How Do I Apply?
It is not entirely clear how to apply for their vehicle placement services. Vehicle placement (which usually means free car giveaway) is mentioned several times on their website but their service page specifically says that their two main programs (SHIFT and Cruise Control) do not provide free cars, so it is not clear how those vehicle placements occurred. We also know that they are still accepting vehicle donations. I would recommend that you reach out to them directly with any questions.
In order to apply for SHIFT, which is their three-year vehicle maintenance program that provides a 50% discount on vehicle maintenance and repair services, you will need to:
- Complete the application on their website. It is estimated to take about 30 minutes, and will require you to upload pictures of your driver’s license, vehicle registration and car insurance.
- Sign the client agreement and services survey. Clients are expected to recertify this every year that they participate in the program. You can participate for up to three years.
If you do not yet have a vehicle, they also offer a free pre-purchase inspection for those who meet their eligibility requirements.
