We’ve found grants for single moms and dads! There are so many scams out there, but we’ve separated the facts from the fiction to help you get the help you need.
Like I said, finding legit grants for single moms and dads can be difficult… but it’s not impossible. One important thing you need to remember is that it’s easier to find real grants for specific needs than it is to find someone who will just give you cash with no strings attached. Most real grant programs provide financial assistance with specific needs.
Legit Grants for Single Moms
Every month, Emma Johnson at Wealthy Single Mommy provides $500 to one single mom who needs it. This cash grant does not have any strings attached, and is just designed to help someone get through some tough times. Learn more on her website, wealthysinglemommy.com, and then click “about” and then “grant.”
Pell Grants & Scholarships
The Pell Grant is a federal grant that can help cover college expenses for single parents. In addition, many colleges and organizations offer scholarships specifically for single moms and dads. These education grants can help with tuition, school books, and sometimes even child care. For a list of over 50 scholarships for single parents, check out this list.
Down Payment Grants
Buying a home can be difficult, especially when you’re trying to do it with only one income. Fortunately, there are many low income homebuyer programs and down-payment assistance programs that help single moms and dads buy homes. Some of these programs provide $25,000 or more toward your down payment!
Home Repair Grants
Own your own home but can’t afford to fix it? Home repair grants can help low income homeowners with necessary repairs. For a list of home repair grants in every state, click here.
TANF and Diversion Cash Assistance
TANF, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, is a government program that provides cash to low income families. You could receive a monthly grant for up to 60 months – that’s 5 years of assistance!
Diversion Cash Assistance is another type of grant that is used to help support single moms and dads who are experiencing a short-term financial crisis. These grants are usually only available for 1-3 months, but they often offer higher amounts than traditional TANF services.
Food Stamps
Food Stamps, also known as The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, provides monthly money that can be used to purchase groceries for your family. In 2021, a single mom with two kids could receive up to $535 per month!
Oh, and if you get food stamps, don’t forget to check out our list of almost 1,000 freebies and deals you can get with your EBT card! Get the full list at LowIncomeRelief.com/EBT!
LIHEAP
LIHEAP can provide a cash grant directly to your utility provider on your behalf. You could receive hundreds of dollars of free money toward your utilities through this program!

Hi Tasha. Reach out to your local university or community college. Their financial aid department will be able to tell you what grants are available and if you qualify for them.
