What is Wheels for Women?
Wheels for Women is an essential resource for single moms who need transportation. It’s offered by Newgate School because they know that public transit isn’t always a reliable solution for low income families. That’s why they step in to help with vehicle donations.
Who is Eligible?
In order to be eligible for this program, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- You must have lived in the Minneapolis Metro area for at least a year (defined as Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington counties).
- You must be a single mom with at least one dependent child under age 18.
- Your school-age children must be enrolled in school.
- You must be working or attending school full time (or a combination of both).
- You must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license.
- Your annual income must not exceed $35,000.
- You must not own a vehicle. Make sure to check for any vehicles that are registered in your name.
You will also be expected to obtain proof of auto insurance beofre the vehicle can be transferred to you.
How do I Apply?
If you meet the requirements for this program, you can use the secure form on their website to complete your application. They only accept applications online.
Before you start your application, it helps to be prepared. You will be expected to provide:
- Your Minnesota driver’s license number
- Address of your current employer
- Supervisor’s contact information
- References
- Date you started working
