Salvation Army

Using their Angel Tree program, the Salvation Army might be able to help you get free gifts and food in Oregon. They have other programs that may be able to help you enjoy a hot meal as well.

The programs work by allowing other people to choose which gifts to purchase from your child’s wish list. They can obtain the lists from “Angel Trees.” This program is especially helpful because it allows your child to make a wish list of specific things they want.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: The Salvation Army typically helps children and sometimes seniors through their Angel Tree programs. In areas that serve hot meals, typically anyone is eligible.

HOW TO GET HELP: You will need to register your child on the Salvation Army Angel Tree website. Some branches don’t accept online applications. If that’s the case in your area, you’ll need to contact the Salvation Army branch nearest to you.

Toys for Tots

The Toys for Tots initiative, managed by the Marine Corps Reserve, offers invaluable support to families facing financial difficulties during the holiday season. Vina Moses Center in Corvallis has an annual Giving Tree program that provides over 11,000 free Christmas gifts to local families. Children up to age 18 can receive help from this organization. This organization can also help with holiday decor and Christmas meals too!

Clackamas County

Christmas Family Adoption Foundation in Oregon City offers their Adopt-A-Family program for underprivileged families living in Washington County. This program helps around 800 people per year. In order to get assistance, you must be be nominated by a government agency, nonprofit, social worker, caseworker or school counselor.

Compassion in Action has an annual Christmas program that can help with your holiday celebrations! They provide free Christmas gifts and food through their annual Adopt-a-Family program!

Multnomah County

Christmas For Kids in Portland helps families during the holidays with their Santa Shopper program. Children in need get selected by school counselors and go shopping with a volunteer for gifts and necessities. Registrations open on November 1st!

Portland Fire and Rescue in Portland hosts their annual Toy and Joy Makers program for low income families residing in Portland city limits. They have collected toys every year for over 100 years to help families who need them. They serve around 7,000 children every year!

Sunshine Division in Portland delivers 2,500 holiday dinner boxes to families in need throughout the Portland area. You have to register before mid-December in order to get help. Each box contains enough food to feed an entire family a traditional holiday meal with all the trimmings.

Washington County

We’ve found free Christmas gifts and food in Hillsboro, Beaverton and elsewhere in Washington County! If you live in this area and you need a little help this holiday season, then you can’t afford to miss this!

Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Beaverton hosts their Giving Tree each year to help low income families during the holidays. Registered families can receive several toys for their children, clothing, and other gifts purchased by community members. Children must be between the ages of 3 and 13 years old in order to receive assistance.

Union Gospel Mission in Tigard offers meals and lunch bags to underprivileged families on a daily basis. You might also be able to get a hot meal for the holidays!
