In this article, we’ll help you understand the Connect2Compete Program. That’s the official name for the Mediacom low income internet plan. We’ll discuss who is eligible and how you can apply for it.

What is Mediacom?

Mediacom is a prominent cable television and communications provider in the United States, primarily serving areas in the Midwest and Southern regions. They serve about 1,500 communities across 22 states.

Their service area encompasses certain parts of:

  • Alabama
  • Arizona
  • California

  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Mississippi

Established in 1995, the company provides a range of services including high-speed internet, cable TV, and landline telephone services.

Mediacom is recognized for its contributions in bridging the digital divide, as it primarily serves smaller markets and rural areas often underserved by larger telecom companies. It continues to upgrade and expand its broadband network to deliver faster speeds and more reliable connectivity to its customers.

What is Connect2Compete?

The Connect2Compete program is also known as the Mediacom low income internet plan. This program lets you get set up with internet services without worrying about deposits, contracts, installation fees, data limits or other barriers that typically make it hard for low income families to get internet services.

The Mediacom low income internet plan offers the following advantages:

  • No deposits
  • No contracts
  • No installation fees
  • No equipment rental fees
  • No data limits
  • Low price

The Connect2Compete program is in collaboration with EveryoneOn, a national non-profit organization. Mediacom and EveryoneOn share a common goal: to make home internet access simple, affordable, and reliable. This enables students to actively participate in digital curricula and extend their learning experience from school to home.

If you receive discounted internet services from Mediacom, you may also be able to receive a discounted computer through EveryoneOn. This program has provided thousands of low-cost computers to low income Americans since 2012.

Who is eligible for the Mediacom low income internet plan?

To be eligible for this program, your household must meet the following criteria:

  • You must live in an area where Mediacom offers internet service.
  • You must have at least one K-12 student living in your household.
  • You must have at least one student who qualifies for the National School Lunch Program living in your household.
  • You must not have been signed up for Mediacom internet services in the last 90 days.
  • You must not owe Mediacom any money for past-due bills or unreturned equipment.

The most complicated and frustrating requirement for the Mediacom low income internet plan is that you cannot have used Mediacom’s internet service in the last 90 days. That means current customers aren’t eligible unless they cancel their service and wait more than three months to reapply.

However, it’s important to note that this requirement only applies to internet service. Even if you subscribe to Mediacom for your cable TV service, you can still be eligible for this program. O

Once enrolled, Connect2Compete participants can continue receiving internet service for $9.95/month for two years, given that at least one child in the household continues to receive free or reduced-price lunches under the NSLP, and they do not violate Mediacom’s Customer Agreement for Residential Services.

If your eligibility changes while you are receiving this service, you may lose access to the discount. At that point, you will have to pay standard rates for internet service. Make sure to communicate with Mediacom if and when your eligibility changes.

What is the service like?

When you sign up for the Connect2Compete service, the speed you receive will depend on whether or not you are eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program.

Families who are not eligible for the ACP can receive speeds of up to 25 Mbps for $9.95 per month plus tax. This plan includes a Wi-Fi modem at no extra charge. It doesn’t have any deposits, installation fees, contracts, rental fees or other associated costs. It’s just one flat rate.

If your family is eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program, then you can receive download speeds of up to 100 Mbps for $30 per month. The ACP subsidy will completely cover that cost, leaving you with a $0/month service. That’s means your internet could be free through the Mediacom low income internet plan!
