Minnesota

In Minnesota, low income households may qualify for free Home Energy Squad assistance! Through this program, experts will visit your home to identify energy-saving opportunities in your home. They will also provide some energy-efficient products, such as LED bulbs, programmable thermostats, weather stripping, water heater insulation and more. The Home Energy Squad will install these products for you. This program usually costs $70-$100, but is provided free for income qualifying households.

Minnesota residents also enjoy several protections under the law. For example, the Cold Weather Rule offers certain protections for customers during October 15 through April 15. It does not prevent disconnection for nonpayment, but it may qualify you for special repayment terms during the cold weather months.

If you need help paying your CenterPoint Energy bill, you may be able to receive assistance from CenterPoint Energy’s Gas Affordability Program (GAP), the Salvation Army’s HeatShare Program and more.

Texas

In the Houston metro area, low income households can receive a free Coolsaver A/C Tune-up once every five years. This program ensures that your air conditioning unit is as affordable and efficient as possible.
